COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With the first batch of his namesake Amber, Karl shared a beer and a passion that changed brewing in San Diego. Imported Munich malts give our original flagship the deep bronze color and crisp toasted malt flavors of a Vienna-style lager, while Cascade hops and our proprietary yeast strain lend a smooth body and clean finish. Brewed in small batches since 1989, Karl Strauss Amber remains San Diego’s original session beer.

Karl spent his life making beer. He believed that behind every beer recipe was an inspiration, and behind every pint was a story waiting to be told. Karl Strauss Amber was his story, a story that challenged and inspired a new generation of brewers. Today we brew our own stories, while raising a pint to the man and the beer that started it all.

Bottle. This pours a nice amber color with a good malty aroma. This is a sweet beer, medium body, and easy to drink. The taste is subtle, but good. This is an enjoyable beer.

A whole lot of Munich malt here -has a tootsie roll flavor, very flavorful for a Vienna. I like it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I lived in San Diego for a while and got familiar with the Karl Strauss beers . Overall, the tastes are conservative and nor terribly courageus but overall, high in quality compared to mass produced American swill . Good with food . Karl himself is pictured on the packaging but i’m not so sure he is that attractive for being on the bottle ! hahaha ... I rather NOT see him on the packaging ! Rather see one of those San Diego beach bunnies !!!!

Very nice for a day-to-day beer. Good aroma, taste and body. It's my new basic beer, but not any better (or worse) than Sam Adams.

A nice dark lager, crisp and easy drinking. Poured with a cream colored head that lasted halfway through glass; some lacing. Clear, medium amber color. Subtle floral hop bouquet; sweet caramel malt in the nose; some acidity acidity and green apple. Palate is firm bodied with a crisp carbonation; softens as the glass warms. Flavor starts with malt sweetness and crisp acidity which carries to mid-palate where a hint of green apple emerges briefly before finishing somewhat dry with a residual malt sweetness; pleasant yeasty-bready aftertaste. Mild hop bitterness evident throughout. I wouldn't hesitate bringing this to a gathering.

Bottle. Rather malty. A bit more sweet than average. A fairly average beer overall--if someone gave me a blind taste test, I likely wouldn’t be able to ID this one! Quite drinkable, though not gourmet by any means.
