3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught at Karl Strauss La Jolla. Clear dark golden color with bubbly off white head. Pleasant caramel malt nose, almost buttery. Caramel is also prominent in the flavor. Slightly sweet. A very good amber lager that exceeded my expectations for this often bland style.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
In the bottle at the 2006 American Thoracic Society Opening reception. Who can complain about free beer when itís a Karl? Pours amber with an off-white head. Has a nice toasted yeasty aroma. Good head retention and residual lacing. Medium body with a mild malty flavor. Mild hop bitterness, but overall well blended and a good balance. A very drinkable free beer.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draught at the Karl Strauss/Old Columbia Grill, San Diego. Not much aroma, no head. Fairly friendly, Vienna style beer. Restrained but drinkable. Barley sugar flavouring, moments of tartness & spice on a crispy base. Very clean.

3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle thanks to Snojerk321. Pours a nice reddish bronze with a fizzy fine bubbled head that dissipates. Nose is caramel, molasses, cooked carrots. Taste is better. On the sweeter end with a bit much effervescence for the style, but the taste is good. Caramel and biscuits, pancakes and a clean finish. Pretty tasty, just the nose is a bit off. Decent.

Tap - Smells sweet and tastes a bit sweet. This would make a decent session beer and I think thatís the goal. Itís pretty good, but Iím not too impressed.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Pours to a nice amber/bronze body with a thin white head. Decent lacing. The aroma is floral hops with torrified grains. The flavor is lightly hoppy toffee with a light "original" bubblegum. The palate is medium-light bodied, over carbonated, and is lightly metallic. Not a beer Iíd get again.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: NOV 30, 2007 A nice beer. Obviously amber in color. I prefer this beer in the bottle as opposed to the reaily available draft. Rerated 11/07 this stuff is pretty damn tasty still.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
On tap at The Spaghetti Factory. Nice looking amber color. Aroma of caramel, bread, and grain. Flavor was basically the same. Subtle sweetness, with not much hopping. Pretty nondescript, and not a whole lot of flavor. Ok

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
On tap at the San Diego airport while waiting for the plane. Sort of a sad way to send off a great brewing town. I think Iíve found San Diegoís answer to Chicagoís Goose Island Honker. Medium orange amber, slight head. Little aroma. Watery, vegetal taste. Talk about a step down from the previous beers. In the end, slight cookie flavor, bit bitter, and vegetal. So-so beyond belief.
