4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Picked up a bomber bottle at Spirits of St. Germain in La Jolla, California. Pours a clear, warm amber color with a small, off-white head. It has a really nice aroma that is full of citrus notes (most notably orange), with hints of alcohol peeking through. There’s a subtle, light bitterness in the taste which complements the big, caramel malt flavors. Medium bodied; coats the inside of your mouth, and leads to a fairly long, resinous finish and aftertaste that have lots of herbal and fruit (apple?) notes. Overall, it’s a really interesting and tasty beer. Definitely the best Karl Strauss beer I’ve had yet; I don’t typically find their beers to be particularly great, so this is a welcome addition to the lineup.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Had this beer on ap at Tonys darts away in la. A very well balanced double ipa. Nice to see that the malt was actually taken into consideration when brewing a beer of this style. Will most definitely seek again. Cheers

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Beachwood BBQ. Pours clear orange with white head. Aromas of orange rinds, grapefruits, hops, and some sweet caramel malts mixed. Flavors of sweet malt, grapefruit citrus, bitter hops, and some caramel. Decent IIPA, but missing big hop bitterness I was hoping for.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22oz. Bottle. This one has a deep honey orange color with a small layer of white bubbles. The nose is fairly mild, but I think this may have been in the bottle for a couple months already. The remnants of the aroma are mostly pine needles and a small note of grapefruit. I don’t associate either of those flavors with the Nelson hop so I’m assuming the nose would have been more pungent when originally bottled. Would consider this one to be slightly on the sweet side for the style with a subdued bitterness that reminds me of the East coast style DIPAs. Definitely shows a fair amount of malt with some sweet caramel and a slightly doughy character. The hop bill gives a tropical fruit profile reminiscent of mango, grapefruit and lemon zest. The bitterness hits late and is quickly subsumed by the malt. The palate is oily with a heavy resinous texture and a persistent carbonation. Overall a pretty respectable showing from a brewery that I have never otherwise been impressed with. Wish I could have had this on draft when it was first released.

bomber. Shared by zinister. Pours amber with an off-white head. Nose is of orange rind. Taste is like artificial-flavored citrus. Yuck. Mouthfeel was bitter, yet sweet.
