COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“To kick off this series of intense hoppy beers, we wanted to go big. Imported New Zealand Nelson Sauvin hops provide a vibrant tropical aroma that raises eyebrows and expectations. Aggressive amounts of Warrior and Ahtanum hops produce an assertive bitterness that stands out against a firm malt backbone. Balanced even at 90 IBUs, Big Barrel leaves a considerable first impression that serves as a prelude of things to come.” According to a brewery rep, the beer will be distributed throughout Southern California and they’re planning on doing 1,000 cases of 22’s. Bomber pours brilliant clear deep gold with off white head. The aroma is rich Simcoe goodness with resiny pine like notes, grapefruit and tangerine along with faint sweet malts and sugariness. The taste unveils resiny hop notes from the likes of grapefruit, tangelo, pineapple and thick pine like resininess running from front to back. This brew really only attains a sense of malty sweetness well underneath the yummy hoppy onslaught. I can drink a ton of this.

Bottle:   Golden hued amber, very faint haze, moderate to large foamy white head, fairly clingy lacing.   Soft grapefruit like aroma, a little bit of dank herbalness and muted candied citrus peel.   A little unfinished tho, seems like some medicinal/fusel like alcohol.   Yeah, almost a perfume like backend that is very distracting.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate, not real heavy but at least its somewhat smooth.   Finishes with a hoppy semi-sweet perfumy alcohol like medicinal grapefruit.   Meh... not as good as I was hoping.   Thanks Ron for the bottle!

Sampled at RBWG 2010. The aroma and taste are earthy hop with plenty of malt in there... reminds me of old homebrew.

Thanks to bman1113vr for sharing this bottle. This is beer number 2500 for me. The beer pours a golden-yellow color with a white head. The aroma is very fruity. I get a lot of grapefruit, pineapple and papaya notes. The tropical fruit notes in the beer really stand out, with very little else coming through. The flavor is more of the same. I get a little biscuit malt, but I also get a ton of pineapple and papaya. The beer is full of hop flavor but the bitterness is fairly low. Overall, the beer is very drinkable, Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
