COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“To kick off this series of intense hoppy beers, we wanted to go big. Imported New Zealand Nelson Sauvin hops provide a vibrant tropical aroma that raises eyebrows and expectations. Aggressive amounts of Warrior and Ahtanum hops produce an assertive bitterness that stands out against a firm malt backbone. Balanced even at 90 IBUs, Big Barrel leaves a considerable first impression that serves as a prelude of things to come.” According to a brewery rep, the beer will be distributed throughout Southern California and they’re planning on doing 1,000 cases of 22’s. Bottle. Pours with a clear orange body and a massive off-white head. Aroma of orange, light tropical fruits, caramel, a bit of pine and a touch of lemon. Taste is herbal and citrus (lemon). Odd battle with the nelson and the warrior. Caramel, stuffing (of all things). Bitter, clean finish, but odd flavors. Dry. Creamy carbonation.

28/IX/15 - 1Pt 6Fl. Oz. bottle from Bierhalle Deconinck (Vichte) @ the turd (di)mansion (home) - BB: n/a (2015-1429) Thanks to Erwin for sharing the bottle!

Clear orange beer, big yellow creamy irregular white head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: sweet, marzipan, bit sugary, play dough, chemical touch. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bit sweet, plastic touch, bitter, rubbery, very bitter. Aftertaste: unpleasant bitterness, chemical, play dough, very dry finish. Nope, this one doesn’t work for me.

Sampled at RBWG 2010. The aroma and taste are earthy hop with plenty of malt in there... reminds me of old homebrew.

Plovmand (7752) - Helsinge, DENMARK - AUG 7, 2015
Bottle. Pours hazy orange with a medium off white head. The aroma is highly malty with biscuity and ripe stone fruit notes. Orange marmalade notes. Sweet malty and somewhat alcoholic flavor with notes of crackers and biscuits. Faint hoppy notes. Some citrus and orange. More U.S. Barley Wine like than DIPA. Still very nice.

Bottle shared by argo0: Pours a clear deep golden bronze with a stringy-lacing white head. Has a fresh citrusy hoppy nose with a touch of light malty sweetness. Starts with pretty good fullness and a light toasty caramel sweetness with some good resiny hop notes before a crisp bittersweet finish. A true to style and drinkable IPA.
