“To kick off this series of intense hoppy beers, we wanted to go big. Imported New Zealand Nelson Sauvin hops provide a vibrant tropical aroma that raises eyebrows and expectations. Aggressive amounts of Warrior and Ahtanum hops produce an assertive bitterness that stands out against a firm malt backbone. Balanced even at 90 IBUs, Big Barrel leaves a considerable first impression that serves as a prelude of things to come.” According to a brewery rep, the beer will be distributed throughout Southern California and they’re planning on doing 1,000 cases of 22’s. Big thanks to Paulie T. for this one. Rated from memory during the Michigan vs. UConn game. Wow did that not go the way it was supposed to. Nice hoppy aroma. Pours a brilliant dark amber with a thick white head. Taste is rather malty, some alcohol comes through as well. This is a beer you will want to try if you can get your hands on it.

Really tasty beer! This IPA is fruity and piney, and for 90 IBUs, it only seems like 50. Really smooth and hints of pineapple, apple cider, and a bit on the sweet side. I highly recommend this one!

20oz bottled I shared with my good firiend and a hop addict from San Diego, Paul, at Karl Strauss at the Universal Studios. It was my last beer at the end of my L.A. Visit. Aroma of citrus, malt, some alcohol. Color was shiny golden yellow. Taste citrus, bitter hops, malt backbone. Alcohol present but smartly hidden. Overall a great fresh and hoppy DIPA with more hops and less malt. I like that.

UPDATED: OCT 13, 2015 Alluring tropical citrus pine aroma in a hazy golden amber pour. Superb hop-malt balance and lovely finish makes this one of my favorite brews of the breed (DIPA). Another winner from KS (just like their Tower 20).

Retrogusto carico, corpo pieno, finale lungo. Molto ben fatta.

Tap at Watering Hole. Clear golden color with a nice soapy white head that hangs around. Big Nelson aroma with papaya, mango and passion fruit all over the nose. Doesn’t have the nose of a typical Imperial IPA (which is a good thing imo). Taste is more typical with some sweet malt and piney and resiny notes that stand out. Easy to drink and hides the ABV very well. Bitter finish with a little sweetness.

Growler from natedogg on BA. Thanks. Pours slightly hazy bright orange with a nice lasting off white head that leaves some lacing. Grapefruit and sharp pine on the nose. Grapefruit, spicy pine, and some caramel malts with a little bit of alcohol in the finish. Nice and dry with plenty of carbonation. This one was a real surprise. Quite delicious.
