COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When checkered blackball flags dot the California coastline, experienced surfers migrate to advanced breaks where strangers to the sport dare not. Blackball is a Belgian-inspired India Pale Ale with a robust West Coast hop profile. Belgian ale yeast, coriander, and Curacao lend a fruity and spicy character for an ale bolder than your average IPA. A blend of New Zealand and Cascade hops add a vibrant floral aroma and clean citrus hop bitterness that lingers through its crisp, dry finish. Drink up while itís young, heavily hopped IPAís are best enjoyed fresh.

Bottle at Victorís bracket box tasting at Paulís. Pours a lightly hazed orange amber with a thin white head. Spicy hops, toast, soft herbal notes. Medium bodied, toast and touches of caramel. Grapefruit bitterness starts early and lingers on the finish.

22 oz. bottle from BevMo (SD) - Pours a hazy amber color with a one and a half finger thick off white head. Aroma is toasted malt. Thatís it! Flavor is lightly sweetened toasted malt with some light malt and esters. Has an odd lingering finish. Medium body. I have no clue to how old this bottle is, but itís not the best 2IPA Iíve had.

22 ounce thanks to JohnCoctosin. This is a very refreshing and nicely done take on the mix of IPA and Belgian. Most of the taste - the banana, yeasty taste -comes from the yeast. But it works well. Enjoyable.

Bottle. Mostly orange body with medium head. Spicy hops and moderate malt fill out the beer profile, both in the nose and in the flavor. Seems to be lacking in its overall complexity. Amp this guy up a bit .

[Bottle] Lightly hazed pale yellow appearance, good heaf formation. Caramel malt, candy and coriander on the nose. Sweet crystal malt, sugarry palate. hoppy citrus kicks in early and while thereís plenty of it, it kind of loses out to the sweet sugarry malt. The Belgian side never really shows up in the flavor, appearing more as a mix between an IPA and a red ale.

A: The beer pours a fairly clear light amber color with a large white head. S: Starts off fairly sweet. Caramel and toffee malt notes lead it off, but the hops begin to come through shortly after. Floral and grassy hop notes provide the bulk of the "IPA" character, and there is a fair amount of spice and yeast to the aroma as well. T: Not as sweet as expected, luckily. Strong spice (clove and all spice) and yeast flavors with a moderate breadiness. Some grassy hops and a hint of pine with a moderate hop bitterness. M: Medium in body with a medium to high carbonation. O: One of the more enjoyable Belgian IPAs, but it could have used a bigger hop profile.

Tap. Pours clear amber with a large, frothy white head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is average malt (biscuit, bread, meal), heavy hops (floral, citrus, herbal), and average esters ( apple/pear) with notes of apricot and peach. Flavor is average malt, heavy hops, fruity, citrus, and light alcohol. Medium body, warmth, and carbonation with a dry finish.
