Draft at the Carlsbad location. A black beer with a red shine under a tan head. The aroma is very malty combined with notes of bread and caramel. The flavor is sweet malty with a light acidic edge from the roasted malt, since it is rather roated, and has a dry, bitter, and roasted finish. 28 IBU’s. MIne was stated at 4.4% ABV.

Sampled at the Carlsbad location on 11/30/06: Pours a mostly opaque with a spotty-lacing light tan head. Toasty grainy malty aroma has some light fruit notes and a lager yeast profile. Body starts effervescent and lightly sweet with some dark caramel and a touch of raisins toward a bready dark German malty finish. Pretty true to style.

Dogbrick (6065) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - AUG 24, 2010
UPDATED: SEP 7, 2010 Sample at the Universal City location. Pours a dark brown color with a medium light beige head that diminishes slowly. Stringy lacing on the glass. Roasty aroma of malt and nuts. Medium body with a sweet malty character along with notes of caramel and nuts, plus a bit of hops. The finish is sweet caramel and malt and lingers a bit. Above average overall.

Draught at Karl Strauss La Jolla: Light tar color, nose of fruity dark plum and raisin, some dark caramel and light roast. The flavor is a bit metallic and thin, comparatively. Decent tail.

A roasty chocolate malt aroma. Definite sweetenss comes through in the nose. The beer is black with a tan head. It looks a little muddy and crude as well. Flavor is intensely roasty, nutty, and chocolatey. It finishes pretty crisp with a lingering coffee flavor.

On tap at Karl Strauss. Hazy brown with no head. Rich chocolate, nutty, and roasty aroma and taste with a clean crisp finish. I thought this one was pretty good.
