COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When the sun goes down past Crystal Pier, the postcard view of the Pacific fades into the dark. As the tourists head off down the Boardwalk, a distinctly local vibe returns to PB. Boardwalk Black Rye IPA is a spicy black ale with a hop profile that’s pure West Coast. Black and caramelized rye malts add complex spicy and roasted notes, while three massive additions of Ahtanum hops provide the vibrant floral aroma and citrus hop character of a Double IPA. Keep Boardwalk out of the cellar, this hoppy offering is best enjoyed fresh.

22oz bottle - While walking the aisles at my local BevMo, I keep seeing the same selection. But out of the corner of my eye, I see a stack of new Karl Strauss beers and quite the nice price at less than $5 a bomber. And like any good beer geek, I had to get one. So on a Sunday afternoon after my Raiders gave a beatdown to the Jets of New York, I popped the cap to this one and was quite suprised at what lay in store for me. The beer poured out an inky, jet black body with a eruptive 3-finger dirty white head. Aroma had a thumping chocolate/hoppy 1-2 punch with some support from char, smoke and a light meat marinade. Flavor started out with an up-front and center roasty malt note like a porter or a stout, but then the tarty-rye character shows up and it starts to stand up to the roasty notes. Pepper-like notes show up around mid-palate and combine the roasty-ness of the malts, the bitterness of the hops, the tartness of the rye and the spicey/peppery-ness of maybe the yeast and this is one damn good beer. Creamy mouthfeel, fantastic lacing left behind. Kudos for making a great, great beer.

Bomber from a little market here at our hotel across from Disneyland. Nose is slightly charred rye toast, with hints of nuts, floral, and vanilla. Black with a medium, heavy lacing beige head. Flavor is lightly bitter with some notes of roast and sweet. Nice to drink after a long day of walking and riding big rides and the bomber was the same price as a small glass of Karl Strauss at the Beer Kart in Disneyland.

This beer has a deep dark look. It has a bitter sharp flavor. It is somewhat flavorful but a little too strong. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured a finger of tan head on a black body. The aroma is a rich roasted malt, coffee and molasses. Wonderful. The taste is rich as well. Roasted malt, rye spice, coffee just a little bit burnt. The texture is crisp with low to moderate carbonation. Quite delicious.
