COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When the sun goes down past Crystal Pier, the postcard view of the Pacific fades into the dark. As the tourists head off down the Boardwalk, a distinctly local vibe returns to PB. Boardwalk Black Rye IPA is a spicy black ale with a hop profile thatís pure West Coast. Black and caramelized rye malts add complex spicy and roasted notes, while three massive additions of Ahtanum hops provide the vibrant floral aroma and citrus hop character of a Double IPA. Keep Boardwalk out of the cellar, this hoppy offering is best enjoyed fresh.

I had this on draft at Karl Strauss in Costa Mesa. At first it tasted a bit thin and watery, but as I got further along a nicely balanced roasty, hoppy beer showed up.

Poured from a bomber, dark brown with medium tan head. Malty, roasty nose, hints of citrus. Nicely balanced taste, medium bodies with a bitter finish.

Cask night at Karl Strauss. Smooth flavor with, pine, toasted malt, and a touch of grapefruit. This is the kind of beer that made me decide I like some IPAs.

Poured into a shaker. Color is black with a dense tan head. Aroma is malty and nutty with some chocolate and floral hops. Flavor is chocolate with nutty notes and floral hop flavors. Medium bodied. Nice lacing. Overall this is a really nice black IPA.

Bomber pours deep darkness with full tan head and some sheet lacing. The aroma is big and yummy with dark roasted malts, earthy and spicy hops, some dark roasted coffee, malt balls and some rye twanginess. Great aroma. The taste feels thin but some how also on the creamy side. I get dark roasted malts fused with almost, but not quite, chewy rye spicy twanginess. Midway and into the finish a touch of toffee and burnt malts come to the surface to play with a bit of resiny pine hops.

Pours black with a thick light-tan head. Aroma is RYE, spicy, brown sugar, some fruit and chocolate. Taste is rye, dry, sweetness, grapes, creamy, coffee finish. Medium carbonation. Nice, creamy mouth feel.

22. Pours a murky near-black with a nice creamy tan head. Big spicy rye nose, showing that husky pepperiness along with some grapefruit and pine. Creamy full body with lively carb. Roast, toast, pepper, grapefruit, pine, and grain husks on the mid palate along with a nice resiny finish.

Dark brown color with lingering tan foam. Floral, pine, citrus, dark chocolate aromas. Medium bodied with average co2. Floral, pine, citrus, spicy bitter flavors with semi-sweet chocolate, pale honey to balance, with parched black malts in a drying finish--very good.

Black forest body topped with a perfect, browned, hop-pocked, cream head. Spicy and prickly nose - probably a combination of PNW hopping and assertive rye. Rough black malt notes. Acrid ash notes with definite bitterness. Dry, bitter, and charry finish. The hop bitterness grows more distinct with each sip.

Best Black IPA I have ever had. Toasty, really creamy, chocolate, slight bitter, slight hops. Super drinkable. Big time coffee flavor. Breakfast beer. Great price too.
