When the sun goes down past Crystal Pier, the postcard view of the Pacific fades into the dark. As the tourists head off down the Boardwalk, a distinctly local vibe returns to PB. Boardwalk Black Rye IPA is a spicy black ale with a hop profile that’s pure West Coast. Black and caramelized rye malts add complex spicy and roasted notes, while three massive additions of Ahtanum hops provide the vibrant floral aroma and citrus hop character of a Double IPA. Keep Boardwalk out of the cellar, this hoppy offering is best enjoyed fresh.

Black in color with a tan head. A bit of rye on the nose, nice roast, pine, and some citrus hops. Grapefruit, orange peel, coffee, and maybe some chocolate. There’s a moderate citrus quality, some pine, floral hops, and lots of roast. Coffee, chocolate, and mild caramel sweetness. Decent bitterness on the finish.

Bomber from Beverages 4 Less in Santee, CA. Pours pretty damn black with a 5 finger creamy tan head. It is beautiful. Aromas of chocolate and maybe resin hop. Whoa! The first hit is resin, quickly followed by chocolate, and a harsh malt that has got to be rye. Meanwhile the head has laced all to heck. On into the finish it has some of that harsh NW IPA aspect, and a lot of roasty toasty near-burnt malt. My mouth just wraps around this baby. Brilliant beyond expectation.

Bomber poured a clear dark reddish brown nearly black with a lasting brown head. Aromas of roastiness, charcoal, rye, grapefruit, bakers cocoa and light pine. Palate was medium bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of roastiness, charcoal, rye, grapefruit, bakers cocoa and light pine with a crisp dry bitter lingering roasty citrus finish.

Decent black ipa. HEavy on the malt bitterness rather than the hops which is nice but it didn’t have a full round flavor.

"No idea of the age, but new to me :) Bomber. Poured inky black and pretty thick head. Great feel, smooth. Almost stoutlike at first, like a bitter imperial stout, but became very well balanced as it warmed and opened up. Pine, spicy rye, and citrus, chocolate, roast, and a bittersweet aftertaste. Leaning towrds the darker malt over the hops, but just ever so slightly. Nice brew."

651mL thanks to DedicatedToFun. Clear, deep cola pour with larger tan foam. Nose is dark chocolate, malted milk balls, vanilla. Taste is strawberry, dark chocolate, mild dairy richness, roast, pine. Thicker, spicy palate. Solid Black IPA.

Bottle, shared with Gripp and Parksy.very dark brown, beige head. A nicely balanced BIPA, with good expression of both the roast and the hops, subtle chocolate notes. Couldn’t find any rye character in here but I didn’t care. Nice body, nice balance.
