3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black in color with a tan head. A bit of rye on the nose, nice roast, pine, and some citrus hops. Grapefruit, orange peel, coffee, and maybe some chocolate. There’s a moderate citrus quality, some pine, floral hops, and lots of roast. Coffee, chocolate, and mild caramel sweetness. Decent bitterness on the finish.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber from Beverages 4 Less in Santee, CA. Pours pretty damn black with a 5 finger creamy tan head. It is beautiful. Aromas of chocolate and maybe resin hop. Whoa! The first hit is resin, quickly followed by chocolate, and a harsh malt that has got to be rye. Meanwhile the head has laced all to heck. On into the finish it has some of that harsh NW IPA aspect, and a lot of roasty toasty near-burnt malt. My mouth just wraps around this baby. Brilliant beyond expectation.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Decent black ipa. HEavy on the malt bitterness rather than the hops which is nice but it didn’t have a full round flavor.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pours with a near black with a large and thick brown head that has pretty decent staying power and good retention. Aromas of fruit. Strong citrus, orange and grapefruit with a considerable amount of esters. Light roast, coffee, some spice and a bit of a metal character as well. Tobacco, chocolate, light dark fruit. Flavors are quite roasty, toasty and spicy. Roast dominates and finishes a bit nutty, dry and acrid. Thin, dry. Spicy. Moderate hop flavors of pine and citrus (somewhat unpleasant, but I don’t particularly care for Ahtanum hops, which I think this uses). Roast, lightly astringent, lasting bitterness. Thin, warming, medium bubbles. The roast and even somewhat astringent malt character dominates the hop character (that said, I am picky on which Black IPAs I like).

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bomber pours deep darkness with full tan head and some sheet lacing. The aroma is big and yummy with dark roasted malts, earthy and spicy hops, some dark roasted coffee, malt balls and some rye twanginess. Great aroma. The taste feels thin but some how also on the creamy side. I get dark roasted malts fused with almost, but not quite, chewy rye spicy twanginess. Midway and into the finish a touch of toffee and burnt malts come to the surface to play with a bit of resiny pine hops.
