COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When the sun goes down past Crystal Pier, the postcard view of the Pacific fades into the dark. As the tourists head off down the Boardwalk, a distinctly local vibe returns to PB. Boardwalk Black Rye IPA is a spicy black ale with a hop profile that’s pure West Coast. Black and caramelized rye malts add complex spicy and roasted notes, while three massive additions of Ahtanum hops provide the vibrant floral aroma and citrus hop character of a Double IPA. Keep Boardwalk out of the cellar, this hoppy offering is best enjoyed fresh.

On tap at Beach to Brewery 2011

Appearance: Pours a rootbeer brown with a thin film of head.

Aroma: Orange like hop. No roast to be found in the nose.

Taste: Grapefruit, tangerine, bitterness with minute roast.

Mouthfeel: Juicy, medium bodied, moderate carbonation.

Overall: This is what I look for in a Black IPA. Big citrus, little roast. Well done.

Dark brown color with lingering tan foam. Floral, pine, citrus, dark chocolate aromas. Medium bodied with average co2. Floral, pine, citrus, spicy bitter flavors with semi-sweet chocolate, pale honey to balance, with parched black malts in a drying finish--very good.

Cask night at Karl Strauss. Smooth flavor with, pine, toasted malt, and a touch of grapefruit. This is the kind of beer that made me decide I like some IPAs.

22oz bottle. Dark brownish red with a small light tan head. Aroma is lots of citrus, pine and floral hops with coffee, spicy rye and chocolate. Flavor is bitter hops, roasted coffee, cocoa, and light alcohol. Medium body with a thick mouth feel. This is a nice big, hoppy, black IPA. There is a lot going on but seems to work good together.

May 11, 2012 - bomber shared with me and blankboy courtesy of B. Mostly opaque ruby-black with a smallish frothy/rocky tan to light brown head. Aroma is resin, light coffee, mostly grain, some alcohol - nice (7+). Taste is really smooth, a tad metallic for a couple of seconds, but that fades out, what is left is mostly deep roast and herbal/resin bitterness. Slick mouthfeel, average body and carbonation and it finishes medium-long, medium-bitter - can’t get over how smooth it is - nice one!
