COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When the sun goes down past Crystal Pier, the postcard view of the Pacific fades into the dark. As the tourists head off down the Boardwalk, a distinctly local vibe returns to PB. Boardwalk Black Rye IPA is a spicy black ale with a hop profile thatís pure West Coast. Black and caramelized rye malts add complex spicy and roasted notes, while three massive additions of Ahtanum hops provide the vibrant floral aroma and citrus hop character of a Double IPA. Keep Boardwalk out of the cellar, this hoppy offering is best enjoyed fresh.

bottle-pours almost black with a soapy kacki head that lasted a long time cold but not very long warm. seems somewhat backwards. nose is of piney hops, char, smoke, lite chocolate with some herbal character. flavors are very chary with alot of pine and herbal hop notes. very well balanced but leaves a bigtime char finish. could be the least metallic Black IPA i have had to date. the malt has enough sweetness to overide the metalllic flavors. some alcohol detected long into the finish. somewhat warming. a very tasty example of this style!

Thanks to a generous soul for sending this bottle my way. Served in a tulip. Pours near black with a good off-white head that sticks around for a bit. Very thin cap and a good-sized collar hang around throughout. Lots of spotty lacing. The nose brings some earthy and piney hops along with a good dosing of roast and some slight chocolate character. The flavor doesnít have quite as much hop character, but thereís a nice bitterness to round everything out. Thereís a touch of rye, though Iím not sure I could have picked it out had I not known it was there. Medium body with good carbonation. Roasty bitterness through the finish. Solid brew. Bottle [660ml] shared with HogTownHarry & garthicus c/o Brock. Pours dark brown with light red hues, a bit oily looking, and a small diminishing frothy tan head. Aroma of lightly roasted malt, leafy hops, chocolate, some coffee and a hint of spice. Flavour of roasted malt, light spice, coffee, leafy hops and chocolate. Alcohol well hidden. Medium bodied, almost-creamy mouthfeel. Quite good, I enjoyed it.

Tap @ Carlsbad brewpub. Black pour with a quickly thinning tan head. Aroma is rye and roast with chocolate perhaps light coffee and minimal hop bitterness. Taste is heavy on the roast with chocolate and rye with background bitterness. Nice roasty beer but more of a hops presence would be nice.

Draft: Itís good but undefined, Iíd rather drink a brown ale or an IPA, but not both. Time to work on a differente style, IPA & DIPA are being destroyed. Food Pairing: Fish and Chips + Cheese platter.
