riversideAK (1630), Shoreline, Washington, USA Aug 10, 2007 Gigantic grapefruit aroma on this one. A gold orange color with a small white head. This is a hoppy damn beer. I got alot of grapefruit. Alot alot alot. Extremely bitter with a little bit of softer citrus backing like oranges or something, but mostly hops. Not alot of malts balance here. Lingering grapefruit and some alcohol on the palate. A little astringent. sblair (37), SD, California, USA Aug 18, 2007 On Tap Hamilton’s. Wonderful San Diego sunset orange color Light sweet tangerine and grapefruit nose. Brilliantly hopped with plenty of bite and a crystal clean finish. Deceptively drinkable for the ABV which is closer to 9% then the 8% listed Naven (726), San Diego, California, USA Aug 19, 2007 On tap @ Hamiltons. This is possibly the best smelling beer I have ever consumed. The hop nose is so profound, it’s almost addictive. Very nice beer, with lots of what I presume to be amarillo and Simcoe hops. Far and away, the best beer Karl Strauss has ever produced. wetherel (1033), Carlsbad, California, USA Aug 16, 2007 Updated: Apr 18, 2008Who knew that Karl Strauss would have a 9% IIPA. On tap a Hamiltons, and I see it starting to pop up elsewhere. Dark yellow color. Initial nice hoppy aroma, but then fades to a cooked corn vegetable or something. I can taste the corn/vegetable too. Not unpleasant, but not tasty or drinkable either. Possibly the worst IPA I’ve had. 5,2,6,3,11:2.7
Tried again at the brewery. 8,3,8,4,16:3.9 Snojerk321 (1009), San Diego, California, USA May 26, 2008 On tap @ Blue Foot Bar in North Park. Pours a medium amber with a ruby hue. Great lacing left on the glass. Nice grapefruit aroma and a nicely balanced finish. A pretty good one from the usually boring K.S.
