3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 SDalkoholic (1768) - Chula Vista, California, USA - DEC 26, 2012
Bottle from Quik Stop Croner: Poured a burnt brown color with a fluffy topping of foamed head. Has a very distinct aroma which is kind of hard for me to describe other than the fact that there is toffee like malts and some yeast present with light spicing, but somehow comes across subtle and not smelling like the real deal. The flavor is sweet at first but then leaves behind a harsh aftertaste as though this has a higher alcohol content then the bottle stated, and I have to admit the yeast in the taste does has a nice spicy touch too that goes well with the caramel like malts. Don’t feel this is authentic as the other artisan ales out there in the market made in the states, but a decent effort on behalf of the godfather of brew or so Karl is proclaimed.

Stolen from Minnie and Mickey. Kids shouldn’t be seeing them drink it anyway. That just gives the wrong message. The caramel malt does go nicely on a chilly, rainy day, and the alcohol burn at the end isn’t that strong and gives hope that the 10th ride on "Its a Small World" will pass eventually.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 KickInChalice (842) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 16, 2012
On tap at the Karl Strauss Brewery and Restaurant in La Jolla; served on tap in a tulip. From notes. First reviewed 12/10/2008.
My pour is a light chocolate and amber color. It arrived with a small head, which stays around and leaves a light lacing on the glass. Suspiciously transparent.
A pleasant blend of oak, smoky malt, and chocolate.
The smoky, roasted malt taste is the first thing I notice, with with vanilla and coffee flavors coming in afterward. There is a slight hoppy kick at the end.
This has a medium level of carbonation, with a nice creaminess to it. At the same time, it is almost too light.
This is a very smooth beer, which I enjoyed, but I don’t know how many more I would want to drink. There are definitely better Browns out there.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Blairgus (1753) - California, USA - FEB 2, 2012
2 feb 2012, bottle. Med nut brown, clear, some steady bubbles. Breast malt, overly toasted granola, coco beans. Med/full body and a tad fizzy. Peppery yellow raisins and powdery oval time matinees with some faint yeasty notes. Pretty good.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 yackery (142) - California, USA - JAN 31, 2012
12oz bottle. Head is off-white and mostly dissolves rapidly though what remains persists as a slick on top with a ring on the side. Lacing is mostly a frosty covering or gives broken coverage but is thin and fast. Body is a pleasant, clear brown like bronze. Overall it’s an appealing appearance.
Aroma is a little hoppy and a little charry a little sweet funky banana. So it’s kind of like a well-done banana nut bread.
Flavor carries the aroma well revealing more Belgian abbey trippel fruity notes. It is very mildly salty / sweet so mild that there is no finish.
Body is light / medium with a thin, slightly oily feel.
Overall, this is a good beer with thoughtful craftsmanship.
