On tap at the Karl Strauss Brew Pub located in La Jolla, CA. I stopped by here while the wife took the kids to Starbucks...

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 SDalkoholic (1768) - Chula Vista, California, USA - DEC 26, 2012
Bottle from Quik Stop Croner: Poured a burnt brown color with a fluffy topping of foamed head. Has a very distinct aroma which is kind of hard for me to describe other than the fact that there is toffee like malts and some yeast present with light spicing, but somehow comes across subtle and not smelling like the real deal. The flavor is sweet at first but then leaves behind a harsh aftertaste as though this has a higher alcohol content then the bottle stated, and I have to admit the yeast in the taste does has a nice spicy touch too that goes well with the caramel like malts. Don’t feel this is authentic as the other artisan ales out there in the market made in the states, but a decent effort on behalf of the godfather of brew or so Karl is proclaimed.

Numba 4 in bottle - Appearance: Pours a clear dark amber brown with a white pin stripe for head.
Aroma: Fruity Belgian yeast, dry bready malt and a slight sweet cherry note.
Taste: Bread crust, fruity yeast, both of which remind me of a doppelbock. Finishes bitter.
Mouthfeel: Low to medium carbonation. Medium bodied.
Overall: A nice new beer from Karl Strauss. If you were bummed years ago on Red Trolley or Endless Summer Light, its time to revisit the folks who are now making this and Tower 10 IPA.
