COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Imagine if Red Trolley T-boned a semi full of hops. Brewed with an overload of hops and five types of caramel malt, this full-bodied strong ale has plum, raisin, and caramel flavors that are balanced by an aggressive hop bitterness and warming finish. ABV: 8% 30 SRM 70 IBU 22 Plato

22oz bottle, no date. $8.99 at Beverages 4 Less in Santee. Also, my bottle states that this beer is now 8.5%. Clear orange brown with a 1/2 finger beige head, creamy with fair retention. Pleasantly fruity sweet aroma that consists of plenty of caramel malt and almond, very light vanilla, and moderate tropical fruity hops. The flavor follows suit, which, for me is a nice surprise. Usualy it seems beers in this style go for brash and aggressive, but this was pretty easy drinking--no ridiculous hop bitterness or over the top scorched caramel toffee sweetness that I come to expect from this "style." The tropical fruit hops are still there, but more or less just complementing the caramel malts. Definitely sweet, but not too sweet. Semi-dry finish, light alcohol noted, with bitterness peaking at a 3. Low carbonation with a medium full body. Nothing crazy exciting, but still was enjoyable. Reminded me of New Glarusí Alt beer from a few years back, at least with the sweetness and the almond notes.

Bomber from Bottle Bin. Somewhat sweet and malty nose. Roasty with some grainy qualities. Decent hop character and a bit of alcohol. Matliness and some dark fruit dominate. My bottle was 8.5% ABV.

Pours with a deep amber body topped by a thin head with little lacing. Itís sweet and malty with a note of sherry, light butterscotch and a very subtle bitterness. Full bodied and smooth.

Pours a dark orange. Big malty flavor followed by a harsh medicinal note. Some sweetness too that is overpowered by the ABV.

Some people were going gaga over this, nut i found it a plain, if oddly rewarding easy drinking big beer. No great projection of flavour - some burnt sugar, sticky toffee and a moderate to heavy bitter finish. Nothing really distinct, but enjoyable all the same.

Sample taster at freddys. Poured from a 650ml bottle. Pours a dark brown with red highlights and a medium beige head. The aroma was soft with caramel, toffee, and some C-hops. The flavor was more of the same, good complex caramel character offset expertly with fruity c-hops. The palate was full and smooth with lively carbonation. Finished long and dry. Overall: I was impressed.

Bottle from Bev 4 Less: Created a firm layer of foamy head up top while a dark brass/copper color filled my pint glass. As for the aroma, a deep profile of caramel malts fill the nose and mask the alcohol content completely, but Iím unable to pick up on any scents of hops. The flavor is dominated by the sweet and sticky caramel malts that drive this recipe and really juice the Red Trolley beer into becoming an Imperial Red ale. I definitely enjoy the alcohol presence in this beer but the drink is a little too sharp for my taste.

[Cask] Bright clear reddish amber hue, creamy cask head. Biscuit malt and grapefruit citrus hop aroma. Sweet jammy malts followed by a decent grapefruit finish all tempered by the cask smoothness.

On tap at Karl Strauss Carlsbad location. Deep amber color. Light small bubble head. Buttery melanoidins. Sweet aroma. Needs more bitterness or something. Dopplebockish. Some yeasty banana notes.

Pint at the brewpub. Pours light, clear red with an off-white head. Aroma is light, barely noticeable hops, sweet underlying malt, and perhaps some graininess. Taste is sweet malt with a touch of roast followed by light bitterness and an off flavor. Mouthfeel is clean. Did not care for this beer.
