COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Imagine if Red Trolley T-boned a semi full of hops. Brewed with an overload of hops and five types of caramel malt, this full-bodied strong ale has plum, raisin, and caramel flavors that are balanced by an aggressive hop bitterness and warming finish. ABV: 8% 30 SRM 70 IBU 22 Plato

Bottle at the hotel. Pours clear tawny with a medium, frothy off-white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is sweet toast and bread malt, figs, maple syrup, dates and light earthy hops. Flavor is sweet malt, rich bread, faint hops and bitterness, light alcohol spiciness, dark fruits and a sweet finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

On tap at Karl Strauss Carlsbad location. Deep amber color. Light small bubble head. Buttery melanoidins. Sweet aroma. Needs more bitterness or something. Dopplebockish. Some yeasty banana notes.

Draft at the tasting room. Pours deep amber with a beige head. Sweet caramel and faint crystal malts, fruity and earthy hops, and some candy sweetness. Not bad, but just a touch too heavy on the sweet malt character for my taste.

Pour on tap at the brewery, dark reddish pour with thin off white head, aroma brought big caramel, toffee, red fruit into some slight pine, spice, almost a rye note into some earth, slight herbal notes as well. Taste was a mix of red fruit, touch of orange into caramel, toffee, some toasted bread into herbal, grassy hops, finishing slightly bitter, dry.

Bottle. Pours with a clear amber-orange hued body with a small, off-white/tan head. Aromas are of tea, marmalade, oxidized. Some caramel, floral, sweet, jammy, mild esters. Flavors are sweet, malty, sugary, bready, orange marmalade. Soft malt profile. Medium alcohol. Too sweet for my tastes. Orange rind, light dark fruit. Surprisingly smooth alcohol wise. Medium carbonation, slightly warming and a bit flabby.

Not one of their best efforts. Should have named it "Awful Really?" If there were any amount of hops in here it isn’t much. Aroma is soft caramel, hints of toffee brown sugar. Appearance is cloudy red with almost no head. Taste is sticky sweet and not in the vinous way, malt malt and more malt but in a simplistic way. Palate is thick and heavy. Not what I was expecting or hoping for. Quite heavy and simple.

Barreras (1157) - Diamond Bar, California, USA - JUL 19, 2014
Pours a brwon and ruby color with a faint sweet malt aroma. Taste was distinctly plum, raisin, and caramel mixed together. The alcohol content came through in the flavor and dissipated rather quickly. This led to a warming finish, almost like a light alcohol burn in the chest after the swallow.

Pint at the brewpub. Pours light, clear red with an off-white head. Aroma is light, barely noticeable hops, sweet underlying malt, and perhaps some graininess. Taste is sweet malt with a touch of roast followed by light bitterness and an off flavor. Mouthfeel is clean. Did not care for this beer.

Bottle from LtDan. Thanks! Pours a plum orangish red with a small sudsy white head. Nose is grainy water, light vegetal notes, no hops. Flavor is more developed with some sweeter fruity flavors, light bitterness. Ends a little ashy.

Pours a dark orange. Big malty flavor followed by a harsh medicinal note. Some sweetness too that is overpowered by the ABV.
