COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We brew Oktoberfest in tribute to the world’s biggest beer party. Vienna and Munich malts produce the deep golden color, nutty undertones, and toasted malt flavors characteristic of this renowned Bavarian beer style. Perle hops imported directly from the Hallertau region of Germany give the beer a smooth balanced finish. This celebratory lager puts the ‘fest’ in the month of October.

Unlike most beers that begin with base malt and add specialty malts for flavor, Karl Strauss Oktoberfest is made from 100% specialty malts. A flavorful blend of Vienna, Munich, and Carahell malts create a toasty, nutty flavor that is characteristic of the style. To balance out the sweetness from the malts, the brewers stayed true to tradition using imported Hallertau Perle hops for a spicy finish.

After cold fermenting for several weeks, the golden hued lager is cellared at 50-degrees for an additional three weeks, creating an incredibly smooth finish. Weighing in at 5% ABV, this exceptional session lager is a great complement to traditional Oktoberfest fare, including grilled meats, burgers, and of course, sausages.

Clear golden appearance, decent head formation. Malty fruity aroma, fairly hoppy. Sweet clean malt intro, mild cokie dough, grainy cereal finish.

(draft) Clear amber body with beige head. Aroma is light -- medium sweet, some caramel, but not much else. Taste is medium sweet, bready, caramel, earthy, some herbal in the finish. Watery light-medium body.

UPDATED: JAN 16, 2005 12oz bottle. Very malty aroma and taste. A thin and unremarkable drink. The lack of complexity that yields such a malt (almost malt liquor-esque) flavor didn’t please. Wouldn’t buy it again by any means.

Bottle. Poured straw color very small head, very light apple malt aroma. Quite thin for the style, some sweet malt but a bit of a metallic finish that put me off. Not a very good marzen at all.

Well, Strauss beers don’t usually do much for me. Nothing offensive, but nothing very interesting. That’s pretty much the story with this one. It had some of the mildly toasty malt character that I would expect from a Marzen but without any depth or complexity.

I’m really not into this beer at all, i don’t know if its a skunked bottle or just not a very good brew. Pours gold with a small white head. Very light malt aroma and taste with an overwhelming skunked bitterness and cheap malt liqour taste. Very watery and had a foul aftertaste, a very unimpressive oktoberfest.

not sure if this beer is just bad or if its gone bad but it tastes like shit. Skunky, clearest Bud looking Octoberfest I’ve ever seen.

Damn well if this was available the last friday of september then i got some fresh stuff. Miniature head that is almost not there and a light smell hard to pick up. Taste sour of grass/ and has a dunkelweizen malt flavor. Also the vienna is quite refreshing howevernot what id classify as a stand out Octoberfest brew.

UPDATED: OCT 17, 2004 So good on tap at the brewery, so bad out of the bottle. I wonder why this is? At the brewery, it is a grainy Bavarian pale bock style, not a typical "marzen". As a matter of fact, I think Ratebeer.com has this one in the wrong category. Should be a Helles bock, no? Nice smooth maltiness that I like. I could drink this for hours.

Bottle, pours beautiful amber color with a creamy off-white head that leaves good lacing - a very attractive beer. Yeah, as is so often the case, it all goes downhill now. This is definitely a Vienna, aroma is malty, lagerish and slightly spicey, the wheat is not readily apparent in the nose. Flavor is malty, some wheat, mild spice and retreating hops. Medium light body with creamy carbonation. About on par with most of the other K Strauss offerings.
