We brew Oktoberfest in tribute to the world’s biggest beer party. Vienna and Munich malts produce the deep golden color, nutty undertones, and toasted malt flavors characteristic of this renowned Bavarian beer style. Perle hops imported directly from the Hallertau region of Germany give the beer a smooth balanced finish. This celebratory lager puts the ‘fest’ in the month of October.

Unlike most beers that begin with base malt and add specialty malts for flavor, Karl Strauss Oktoberfest is made from 100% specialty malts. A flavorful blend of Vienna, Munich, and Carahell malts create a toasty, nutty flavor that is characteristic of the style. To balance out the sweetness from the malts, the brewers stayed true to tradition using imported Hallertau Perle hops for a spicy finish.

After cold fermenting for several weeks, the golden hued lager is cellared at 50-degrees for an additional three weeks, creating an incredibly smooth finish. Weighing in at 5% ABV, this exceptional session lager is a great complement to traditional Oktoberfest fare, including grilled meats, burgers, and of course, sausages.

Bottle. Golden beer with a nice off-white head. Low spice/noble hop/malt aroma. Lighter bodied. Not as much malt nor as dark as a typical octoberfest. Clean - some malt, and some spice flavor.

Pours a medium golden color. Aroma is yeasty and somewhat malty. Tastes very much like a hefeweizen. Flavor consists of grains, yeast, malt and some spice. This has probably been sitting around for a good 6-7 months but I think it’s pretty good.

Dark gold, thin white head. Sweet aroma, with notes of i don’t know, pumpkin, maybe? Some caramel in the flavor, but not much. Dryish finish. Thanks to DarkElf for the trade!

(12 oz bottle) Jesus Christ, is this an Oktoberfest, or a Miller High Life copy? This Oktoberfest is just flat out awful, nothing more than a lawnmower beer. Lightly sweet, kind of grainy, with a mild bitterness, but malty isn’t exactly the word that comes to mind while drinking this beer. This just might be the worst Oktoberfest I’ve ever sampled, seriously. Stinky, grainy, lightly sweet nose. Thin palate. Fizzy yellow beer with a small white head and lots of carbonation bubbles. I swear, it looks like Miller High Life too. I bought a six pack to send out in trades. What an idiot! Thank God I only sent out 1 bottle in a trade, and it was a bonus beer. My apologies, Derek! My ratebeer membership should be revoked as punishment.

Not KS’s best. Better when had on draft as opposed to bottled. Must agree that it is not what you expect when you hear Oktoberfest. Not much in the way of hop flavors.

Clear gold. No head. Armoa is some sweet malts, some weak hops. Boring flavor is all malt, sweet and grainy. Light/medium body is alright, but the rest is really uneventful.

Gold body, thin offwhite head. Pretty bland aroma with a more defining characteristic then ’malty’. Decent hop balance for an Oktoberfest, but somewhat uneventful. A little too sweet for the style.

Clear golden appearance, decent head formation. Malty fruity aroma, fairly hoppy. Sweet clean malt intro, mild cokie dough, grainy cereal finish.

(draft) Clear amber body with beige head. Aroma is light -- medium sweet, some caramel, but not much else. Taste is medium sweet, bready, caramel, earthy, some herbal in the finish. Watery light-medium body.

UPDATED: JAN 16, 2005 12oz bottle. Very malty aroma and taste. A thin and unremarkable drink. The lack of complexity that yields such a malt (almost malt liquor-esque) flavor didn’t please. Wouldn’t buy it again by any means.
