We brew Oktoberfest in tribute to the world’s biggest beer party. Vienna and Munich malts produce the deep golden color, nutty undertones, and toasted malt flavors characteristic of this renowned Bavarian beer style. Perle hops imported directly from the Hallertau region of Germany give the beer a smooth balanced finish. This celebratory lager puts the ‘fest’ in the month of October.

Unlike most beers that begin with base malt and add specialty malts for flavor, Karl Strauss Oktoberfest is made from 100% specialty malts. A flavorful blend of Vienna, Munich, and Carahell malts create a toasty, nutty flavor that is characteristic of the style. To balance out the sweetness from the malts, the brewers stayed true to tradition using imported Hallertau Perle hops for a spicy finish.

After cold fermenting for several weeks, the golden hued lager is cellared at 50-degrees for an additional three weeks, creating an incredibly smooth finish. Weighing in at 5% ABV, this exceptional session lager is a great complement to traditional Oktoberfest fare, including grilled meats, burgers, and of course, sausages.

On tap inside Disneyland. Poured a medium to deeper amber color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of caramel and some toasted malts. Tastes of the same caramel and toasty. Both flavors and aromas on the subtle side and you really had to try to get anything outside of a generic sense.

Light golden appearance with a good frothy head. I have hardly anything to say about this beer other than it is extremely uneventful. "Benign" is an excellent word to describe it.

Well, Strauss beers don’t usually do much for me. Nothing offensive, but nothing very interesting. That’s pretty much the story with this one. It had some of the mildly toasty malt character that I would expect from a Marzen but without any depth or complexity.

Clear golden appearance, decent head formation. Malty fruity aroma, fairly hoppy. Sweet clean malt intro, mild cokie dough, grainy cereal finish.

Not KS’s best. Better when had on draft as opposed to bottled. Must agree that it is not what you expect when you hear Oktoberfest. Not much in the way of hop flavors.

Slightly hazy straw-colored body with suspended yeast sediment; thin off-white head. Toasty aroma with caramel and light hints of butterscotch. Cerealy, toasty body with plenty of grassy hops, tart at the front and finishing with an earthy bitterness. Thin-bodied. A bit too much sharp acidity to be called quaffable. Thanks fordest for the bottle!

Getting notebook online. Draft at SDFOB 2007. Poured copper with a small white head. Flavors were just not right. The bitter of the hops and and sweet malt fought. Or maybe the malt was just bitter. Not my thing.

Sampled on 12/8/2009. This marzen pours a medium orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel and floral. A medium bodied marzen. The malts are caramel, bready and sweet. The hops are floral and earthy. Kind of benign and inoffensive tasting beer, not a whole lot of flavor. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
