COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We brew Oktoberfest in tribute to the world’s biggest beer party. Vienna and Munich malts produce the deep golden color, nutty undertones, and toasted malt flavors characteristic of this renowned Bavarian beer style. Perle hops imported directly from the Hallertau region of Germany give the beer a smooth balanced finish. This celebratory lager puts the ‘fest’ in the month of October.

Unlike most beers that begin with base malt and add specialty malts for flavor, Karl Strauss Oktoberfest is made from 100% specialty malts. A flavorful blend of Vienna, Munich, and Carahell malts create a toasty, nutty flavor that is characteristic of the style. To balance out the sweetness from the malts, the brewers stayed true to tradition using imported Hallertau Perle hops for a spicy finish.

After cold fermenting for several weeks, the golden hued lager is cellared at 50-degrees for an additional three weeks, creating an incredibly smooth finish. Weighing in at 5% ABV, this exceptional session lager is a great complement to traditional Oktoberfest fare, including grilled meats, burgers, and of course, sausages.

12oz bottle. Clear golden color with no head. Aroma of sweet malts and maybe cereal too. Flavor is like the aroma with a bit of sweet malts and corn flakes. Some noble like hops round out the flavor.

On tap at Encinitas Oktoberfest. Nice white head with an amber hue. Minimal aromas but slight malt sweetness. Pleasant and thin on the palate. Not much depth of flavor or finish but pleasant for a warm beautiful sunny north county san diego day.

12 oz bottle. Thick, light cream head. Medium amder in color. Light malty fruityness on the nose. Taste is bleh. Sharp metallic and not a whole lot more. Not a drain pour, but not much positive to say either.

Tap at La Jolla. Light yellowish pour. Aroma is very light and quite boring. Not much past some crackers and lightly sweet malts. Flavor is lightly malty, watery, quite boring. Meh.

I’m really not into this beer at all, i don’t know if its a skunked bottle or just not a very good brew. Pours gold with a small white head. Very light malt aroma and taste with an overwhelming skunked bitterness and cheap malt liqour taste. Very watery and had a foul aftertaste, a very unimpressive oktoberfest.

not sure if this beer is just bad or if its gone bad but it tastes like shit. Skunky, clearest Bud looking Octoberfest I’ve ever seen.

(12 oz bottle) Jesus Christ, is this an Oktoberfest, or a Miller High Life copy? This Oktoberfest is just flat out awful, nothing more than a lawnmower beer. Lightly sweet, kind of grainy, with a mild bitterness, but malty isn’t exactly the word that comes to mind while drinking this beer. This just might be the worst Oktoberfest I’ve ever sampled, seriously. Stinky, grainy, lightly sweet nose. Thin palate. Fizzy yellow beer with a small white head and lots of carbonation bubbles. I swear, it looks like Miller High Life too. I bought a six pack to send out in trades. What an idiot! Thank God I only sent out 1 bottle in a trade, and it was a bonus beer. My apologies, Derek! My ratebeer membership should be revoked as punishment.

UPDATED: JAN 16, 2005 12oz bottle. Very malty aroma and taste. A thin and unremarkable drink. The lack of complexity that yields such a malt (almost malt liquor-esque) flavor didn’t please. Wouldn’t buy it again by any means.
