Karl Strauss and San Diego go together like peanut butter and chocolate. That’s why we chose San Diego Beer Week back in 2012 as the perfect place to debut our Peanut Butter Cup Porter. This decadent twist on a robust porter packs rich layers of smooth peanut butter and dark chocolate flavors. The lingering, slightly dry finish is sure to keep you going back for the next sip. Today, it turns out you really can have your dessert… and drink it too.

On draft at Breakwater Brewing. An absolute peanut butter bomb of a beer. The aroma has PB to it, the taste and finish both are loaded with chocolate and PB! Great brew!

This is what I've been looking for. It is better that the others. Has the taste of peanut butter one would expect. It isn't overly sweet. An excellently smooth beer. You have to try it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. I’m fairly impressed by this one. It has a good peanut aroma, followed by a decent peanut flavor in the taste. The only gripe I have is that the palate was too thin. I prefer my porters to have a more substantial mouthfeel. That gripe aside well done KS.

Poured from bomber, medium dark brown with a quickly dissipating medium tan head. Nose is the middle of a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup, a bit lacking on the chocolate end. Taste is somewhat sweet, a bit bitter, kind of cola like. As far as a dessert beer, I’d stick with a nice Imperial Stout. Overall, not worth the price IMO. Would like to try some others to compare with.

On tap in LA. Strong nut extract aroma. I would have picked hazelnut, seems very similar to the hazelnut extract in other beers. The nuttiness goes really nicely with the sweet, chocolately porter. A little overly sweet, perhaps, but otherwise they nailed this. Very enjoyable.

On tap at Martin’s West in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is strong peanut butter, chocolate. Taste is nutty with a chalky, cocoa / chocolate flavor. Aroma is ultimately more appealing than the taste but it got a little better as it went.

Draught at Karl Strauss, Carlsbad. Dark Amber beer with a decent beige head. Aroma brings peanut butter, caramel, hazelnuts, licorice, milk chocolate, some earthy notes. Peanut butter flavor, hazelnuts, caramel, milk chocolate, some caramel and licorice. Rather sweet but a decent beer.

Draft at Eastbound on Pint Glass Night. Aromas were nice and peanut buttery with a definite chocolate background. Flavor fell off quite a bit when the chocolate turned metallic. Nice at first, couldn’t drink a ton.

Clear deep amber - brown beer, good pale tan head. Nice nose of chocolate and peanut butter. Palate is airy and smooth, mild fine carbonation. Smooth sweet dark malts. Apple! Sweet apple! Appetizer! Very mild peanut buried under the avalanche of sweet apple. Smooth finish being mild sweet floralness. Shame the flavour could not follow the nose. This is a bonkers and pretty messy beer.

Dark brown pour, tan head. Meh. Weird. Artificial peanuts. Weird oily chocolate. Too bad, I had high hopes. Oh well.
