Old bottle, had to be, no way someone would sell this as a APA, flat lifeless beer malt bomb and paper.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
October 5th, 2013 - The Pintail: hoppy, fresh and piney in the nose, and the flavor keeps up. Thereís a nice depth of hops, a floral flourish, and a good, refreshing quality overall.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap @ Carlsbad brewpub. Slightly hazy golden orange pour with a slick of white foam. Aroma is light bitterness, citrus and pine with a heavy sweet malt presence. Taste is a nice balance of pine and bitterness but thereís a heavy sweet malt, caramel flavor in the background which muddies it up quickly. Not very clean.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: OCT 21, 2011 Poured from a bottle into a pilsner glass. Just over an inch of head. Color was caramel. Plenty of lacing on top with some film on the sides. The film stayed throughout the pour.
Initial whiff was pine and grapefruit, followed by hops.
Initial taste was a pleasant balance of hops, pine and grapefruit, followed by a small hint of bitterness. Even some lemon wafer cookies in there as well.
Moderate on the carbonation. Flavor stayed consistent throughout. Pine and hops rule the day.
I thought this beer was going to be good and it didnít disappoint. Heavy on the hops, but smooth. Great combination.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On-tap at the TapRoom. Pours slightly hazy amber with a thinnish white head, good lace. Smells light syrupy hoppy, slightly fruity sweet, earthy, slightly nutty, some malts. Tastes of some iced tea, nutty hops and some sweet cereal malts. Not that good but drinkable. Medium body, good carbonation.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: DEC 15, 2015 Clear golden color with white head. Aroma is somehow faint, some malts and earthy hops. Taste is also pretty simple. Slightly hoppy, slightly malty, not too bitter. Medium body with quite low carbonation. Easy drinking but nothing more.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A-- Poured a darker orange amber color. Quite clear and some visible carbonation bubbles. Half finger of off white head. Nice lacing with this. Good sticky ring of lacing. Head holds up quite nice.
S-- Pineapple, passion fruit, Lemon, orange, and lime. Good citrus nose. Some caramel backbone but this is very fruit forward.
T-- Pine, orange and grapefruit in the taste. Turns to a more herbal variety. Citrus tones get lost in the taste. Not much of a backbone to this.
M-- Slight amount of toffee in the feel but not enough to back up the hops. A sort of thin, soapy herbal character to this. A lot of hop bite to this but nothing to sooth it out. Dry, medicinal orange and grapefruit finish. Some resin in the mid palate. Lightly carbonated and medium feel.
O-- More body to back this up. Lots of hops in this and could be very nice with a bigger backbone. Would buy again as a pretty well hopped APA.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
From a 355ml bottle on 12/9/2012. Pours a fairly clear dark golden with a tiny head. Has a delightful floral, fruity, perfumey aroma. This is a very flavoursome APA, with caramel and toasty malt, and sweet citrus fruit particularly prominent, with a touch of honey at the back. Better still, itís quite hop forward, with a touch of IPA-like grapefruit bitterness present. The body is medium and the carbonation spot on. All up, a terrific APA with heaps of character.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
I assume that this is the same as the íStar of India Pale Aleí that I had on draft in the San Diego airport. I think that itís the same thing based on the descriptions on their web site, but they didnít respond to my email and itís not really worth pursuing any more. A little bit too hoppy, to the point where it tastes almost minty. Amber color, weak head. I actually drank it 2 months ago and found the rating sheet the other day.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: SEP 15, 2016 Citrus aroma in an amber pour. A delightful drink that ticks all the pale ale boxes with a perfectly balanced body and a laid back, but sustained, bitter finish.
