tap at brewpub in downtown San Diego-pours bright orange with a small white head. nose is piney with light diacytl, especially as it warmed a bit. some sweet grain notes detected in the nose (cereal and cracker). flavors of sweet hops, grainy malt and light sweetness. ok but nothing special. i had high hopes for this beer since it was going to be a cask offering a few days after i sampled it. some lite earthy and herbal notes on the finish-became very herbal over time. ok.

Beer #3 in a flight. The most lemon I’ve had in a beer that didn’t have a slice dropped it. Also had a touch of hops and a touch of pine, but none of it was very heavy. Perfect to drink when cleaning the house, though don’t use pine sol -- the aroma would overpower the beer.

Decent pale ale. Assertively hopped, nice dryness. A typical west-coast rendition of the style.

Bottle from South Bay Drugs: Created a small layer of film for a head while the liquid was a sparkling golden honey color. My nose detects a decent amount of hops with scent of citrus and the signature Karl Strauss malts. The flavor is sort of bland and boring with only a minimal presence of bitter hops but with a bigger taste of sweetness attributed to the caramel like malts. Also, the malt gives off a bready flavor that balances out well with the floral hops that have a notice of honey or flowers.

Bottle. The look is clear, no head, goldenish color. The smell is malts, floral, hops, pie like, and ok. The taste is pine, hops, and malts.

On draft at Columbia Street brewpub. Pours a clear, deep amber color with a thin off-white head that leaves some spotty lace. Aroma is dominated by hops with some toasty malts evident as well. Flavor is very briefly of toasty malts, then become all about the hops, citrus, grapefruit and pine notes abound, with a slight spiciness in the finish - hoppy indeed and somewhat unbalanced to this beer lover. Medium body and cripsy carbonation. Overall this is a just above average brewpub beer.

On tap @ Hamilton’s. Pretty much your standard pale. Clear golden pour with a frothy white head. Light nose of citrus hops and some malt. Finish was crisp and refreshing.

On tap at KS Sorrento. Pale gold color. Kinda thin body. Sweet with a bit of hop bitterness. Pretty weak unsatisfying finish. Wouldn’t try again.

[Bottle] Golden amber hue, modest head formation. Citrussy hop, mild caramel aroma. Citrussy lemon and grapefruit from start to finish, malt is minimal making for a rather light body. Decent light, hoppy pale ale.
