Good mass pale, not manufactured like some other big name pales. Good hop aroma, perfectly clear, nice malt light malt and hop balance. Good stuff.

Draught. Clear reddish copper with some small white head. Aroma is floral hops with tangy fruit (grapefruit or pineapple). Medium body and carbonation. Flavour starts sweet and fruity (pineapple or grapefruit again) and ends with a pleasant bitter finish. A well balanced pale ale.

UPDATED: OCT 21, 2011 Poured from a bottle into a pilsner glass. Just over an inch of head. Color was caramel. Plenty of lacing on top with some film on the sides. The film stayed throughout the pour. Initial whiff was pine and grapefruit, followed by hops. Initial taste was a pleasant balance of hops, pine and grapefruit, followed by a small hint of bitterness. Even some lemon wafer cookies in there as well. Moderate on the carbonation. Flavor stayed consistent throughout. Pine and hops rule the day. I thought this beer was going to be good and it didnít disappoint. Heavy on the hops, but smooth. Great combination.

No love for Karl Strauss? I thought this was a very nice brew. Pours clear dark golden copper color with a fluffy white two finger head. Floral aroma, with some light citrus coming in in the big nose. Flavor is a nice sweet citrus and light bitter pine on the finish. There is a definite malty biscuit backbone on this one with some caramel sweetness. Slick mouthfeel with high carbonation and some bite lingering on the palate. Very nice beer.

A delightful drink that ticks all the "Pale Ale" boxes. The enticing aroma is backed up with a perfectly balanced body and a restrained bitter finish.

As soon as I opened this beer, as well as the hiss, there was an immediate surge of resinous hops in my nostrils. Crikey. The body of the beer is orange amber with a puffy white head and another blast of herbal hoppiness when I poke my nose anywhere near the beer. It is strongly reminiscent of green spruce cones and redwood resin. Just glorious. The immediate impressions of the taste is that it isnt as massive as its aroma. It is gently carbonated and then those herbs come through with a slightly sweet stonefruit body but then they return with chlorophyll-like bitterness. I am not in the least disappointed. Itís a good exemplar of its style while retaining its individuality. Itís more herbal than other APAs and delightfully so.

Very pale amber color with a foamy head. Aroma is of carmelized malt and hops override it. A nice caramel flavor as well with a nip of hops. Totally drinkable...nothing incredible.

On tap at Karl Strauss Carlsbad. Brown amber color. Lots of hop bitterness. Nice clean grassy hoppy aroma. Very nuce. Karl Strauss keeps getting better and better. I think several of the staff are getting heavier into brewing, attending QUAFF, etc, which is helping the beer quality.

UPDATED: MAY 18, 2010 6 pack from BevMo Carmel Mtn. Ranch: Deep orange-amber color with a medium eggshell white head. Aroma is light sweet citrus. Flavor starts light sweet caramel followed by citrus and a light dry grapefruit -lemon finish. Medium body is tangy with moderate carbonation. One of Karl Straussís better brews. : )
