Draft, brewpub at LAX United terminal. Clear and dark amber-red with a small but lasting head. Sweet cereal and spice aroma. Flavor is toasted nut and spicy, tangy cereal grain. Light-medium body that is tingly and slightly dry. Pretty nice flavor.

I had this beer on tap at the brewhouse and loved it. The beer as smooth and fullbodied, it went well with the steak I had.

On tap at brewery. Very watery taste, not impressed at all, was hoping from tap would be better than bottle. Not great

UPDATED: APR 6, 2008 Pint draft at red lobster. Served as a caramel-reddish with almost no head. Aroma was almost non-existent (This glass was served way to cold, but even as I let it warm-up, little aroma emerged). Flavor is sweet with caramel, plums and raisins. Mouthfeel is medium-thin, with good prickly carbonation. Hops are well integrated and barely noticeable. Finish is short and dry. Overall this is a fair, session-able amber ale, but not a great one.

Draft at the downtown brewpub. Light medium malt aroma. Reddish amber color with a creamy off-white head. It laced a bit. Medium body; moderate carbonation. Sweet dark fruits, but not too dark, and some carame/toffee malt. Not much bitter. Arguably a very flavorful amber. Finish is not quite dry, and again, not much bitter.

On tap at Karl Strauss. Copper amber with a creamy white ehad. Caramel taste with berry notes and a grainy finish.

By no means a bad beer. While it doesn’t blow me away, it is highly drinkable, has a great red-like amber color and smells of toasty hops with a tiny hint of vanilla/caramel. I think it’s one of the better Strauss beers, but it’s not exceptional.

Why do I give the same rating to all of Karl Strauss’s sampler beers? Above average beer. Nice red color. Homebrew taste. A tiny bit bitter and sharp, but decent.

Brought by Tipsy to the tasting. Looks like a red ale. Almost no head. Almost no aroma. Some vanilla in the flavour. Lots of toast. Actuallly a touch better than expected.
