3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
comment--This beer has no head what so ever and that dissapoints me. The reddish brown color is uplifitng though. Smooth caramel notes and a slight nutty flavor a brown ale gives off. Did have a stout like toffee alcohol taste but ill stick to the Karl Strauss lager. This is a very common find in SanDiego and the logo of the red trolley is cute cuz it gives me memories of getting jumped, robbed, or getting arrested on the red trolley we call a transit system here.

This beer has lots of aroma. You can smell lots of malt but the hops too. Pretty red color. Pretty good overall.

I like hops in my nose. Red trolley is all that. Rusty red color with a very dry but mostly barley taste (?). Fair head retention and nice lace. Sampled on tap in San Diego.

If you like the red/amber ales, this one is the litmus test I hold all others to. This beer goes down smooth and leaves a mild and pleasant aftertaste. Red Trolley is rich in taste, but not overpowering; the alchohol melds well with the flavors and does not produce a strong or bitter bite like some other ales. My favorite beer.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: APR 25, 2008 One of my favorite amber ales. Kind of a cross between an alt and an ESB? Malty/grainy body is luscious, but not too heavy. Just enough hoppy bite to balance through the finish. Beautiful red ale.

Draught at Karl Strauss/Old Columbia Grill, San Diego. Nice looking red beer. No real head or lacing. Raspberry aroma - always a winner with me. Very clean and smooth thru the palate, syruppy in fact. Some concealed forest fruits flavouring and general juicy base. Nice stuff - one of the best Karl Strauss beers tried.

Not a huge fan of Ambers, not a huge fan of Karl Strauss. This one is just OK. Let's just say it's drinkable.

Draft. Poured deep reddish brown with a creamy off-white head that lingered well. Sweet malty nose, with hints of spice. Very malty, sweet ale with a slight hop presence. A little unbalanced as an amber ale, really reminded me more of a scottish style. Smooth, medium body and creamy carbonation.
