Nice Red color. Sweet aromas that carry over into the flavor. Maybe a bit too sweet. Hints of caramel and malt.

I just tried this beer yesterday for the first time and I absolutely LOVED it! Besides the fact that it is locally brewed, I really enjoyed the caramel taste plus the full-bodied stout taste.

(12 oz bottle: Hi-Time Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa, CA) Fairly flavorful, and the moderate caramely maltiness is partially balanced by a fairly mild hops, but the overall flavor seems kind of sugary and a little on the cheap side. The body is typical of the style, but the sugary palate is tiring. It definitely needs more hops to clean the palate and give this beer some character. The nose is sweet and caramely, and again, lacking sufficient hops. Red Trolley Ale is aptly named as the color is an attractive, very deep ruddy amber color, but given my general opinion of Karl Strauss beers, I have to wonder if there food coloring in this. Small, light tan head quickly fades to a wide brim around the edge of the glass. Whatever lace is left on the glass dissipates rapidly. Not a horrible beer, but too one-dimensional (i.e., sugary). Red Trolley Ale is aptly named for another reason: our trolley system in San Diego is servicable in certain situations, but generally not all that good.

(Draft) Pours a clear amber body with a moderate white head. Aroma of caramel, bread, and a hint of hops. Smooth, sweet malt flavor. Enjoyable

Pretty color, fair head. Fairly sweet for an ale. Not bad, not great. Enjoyable, but nothing super special

I thought this was the best beer out of their sampler (though the stout is good, it’s not as much my style). The head had some lace, but not much. The beer smells and tastes sweet, and it sticky and warming. Hoppy notes don’t start to show until the beer warms up.

Pours an amber color. Aroma is sweet and fruity, with a little bit of graininess. Flavor is a bit malty with a caramel type sweetness in the background. Average amber.

Draft, color and aroma is more like a brown then an amber. Caramel, honey, oak. Taste is too sweet, slightly spicey with caramel. Unbalanced and doesn’t show an hop character.

Clear amber coloured body with a small white head. Aroma of vinegar and malt mixed with some soap. Light to medium-bodied; Spicey flavour with some light spices and malt present. Hardly and hops-nothing crazy. Aftertaste clean and malty-nothing else. Overall, a decent amber-not great nor horrible. I sampled this draught beer from Terminal 7 at LAX on 31-May-2004.

comment--This beer has no head what so ever and that dissapoints me. The reddish brown color is uplifitng though. Smooth caramel notes and a slight nutty flavor a brown ale gives off. Did have a stout like toffee alcohol taste but ill stick to the Karl Strauss lager. This is a very common find in SanDiego and the logo of the red trolley is cute cuz it gives me memories of getting jumped, robbed, or getting arrested on the red trolley we call a transit system here.
