UPDATED: JAN 23, 2008 Tap - Looks good, smells good. Caramelly malts dominate the flavor, but it’s actually balanced pretty well. Mild, pleasant hops bite in the finish.

Had this while waiting for a plane at LAX - perhaps the airport tap was watered down ro something, but I kind of got the impression other rates did, but much more sedated/watered down. Served in a pint glass with a thin head and a amber copper color. Not too much aroma perhaps the hint of hops and malt. A nice smooth feel going down with a malty flavor but nothing really jumping out at me. Again perhaps it was the setting and the beer was served fairly cool.

I like this beer. It’s pretty to look at, smell’s great, and is very flavorful, especially considering I’ve only had it from a bottle. It’s got a bit of sweetness to it with a bitter finish. Very smooth going down considering the amount of carbonation. My aunt lives right next to the brewery, so I should go try it from tap there.

On tap from the brewpub. Tasted during trip to California. Reddish brown colour with a weak head. Great aroma of sweetness, caramel and toffee. Nice flavour of toffee and hints of light roasted barley, the taste ends up smooth with little dry and bitterness.

The beer poured a brown color w/ orange highlights; thin lasting head and medium lasting lacing. The aroma had malt, and caramel, but it was thin. The flavor had a hint of chocolate and caramel, malts, and a hint of candy. The mouthfeel was lt to medium bodied, and creamy.

very cremey, smooth, and quite malty. peanuts, toast... hops are slightly pronounced with floral and citrus notes. aroma of toffee, primarily. downfall is the prickly, yet crisp, but watery mouthfeel that seems to override the cremey palate. whatever, i liked it a lot. but i think having it at a hookah bar in downtown San Diego helped a lot...

Sampled by friends who brought it from US. An ok ale, ruby colour, medium head. Corn-flakes flavor, bitter finish.

Draft. Copper color with an off-white head. Light aroma - some malt. Malty flavor with some toffee and low fruitiness - plum/date. Fairly rich flavor.

Everyone says this is the best Karl Strauss has to offer. Its a decent beer. Good color, malty sweet with a lasting finish. Pretty thin, not remarkable. For a lighter beer, I think the Amber Lager is a much better alternative.
