3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Taster at La Jolla location. Pours a clear deep amber colour with a small tan head. Aroma is largely of caramel malts, with a slight hoppy backbone. Taste is sweet up front with a nice bold bitterness through the finish. Medium bodied, creamy mouth feel, and softer carbonation. Overall this was my favourite of the Karl Strauss brews I tried.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours with a redish brown hue with a white head that is mostly diminishing. Aroma is of dried fruit - mainly prunes and raisins, nuts.
Flavor is malty, musky, and has a lot of toffee in the end note.
Couldnt feel that much carbonation weirdly enough.
Interesting tasting beer - i don’t like the muskiness and maltiness of it though.

2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
A deep amber color with a lacing head barely noticeable on the surface. A Bitter edge right up front with a metallic taste. God...I hate metallic. A little malty in taste and aroma. Hated it.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
It started off good, but as it is with all Karl Strauss beers, they start to taste like ass as they warm. Decent, but I would never buy it for myself

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: APR 25, 2008 One of my favorite amber ales. Kind of a cross between an alt and an ESB? Malty/grainy body is luscious, but not too heavy. Just enough hoppy bite to balance through the finish. Beautiful red ale.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at Marie Calanders. Suprisingly tastey, with enough toasty malts and hops to make me prefer this over a Sam Adams in places with limited variety. Flavors of Smoked Malts, Barley toast, honey with medium hoppieness. Finishes a bit sweet with hints of fruits. A bit overdone with the carbonation.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Red, malty, dark caramel flavor without being obnoxious. Sweetness under control. I thought the aroma was similar. Slightly nutty, mild bitterness.

This isn’t a bad trolley to be hit with, as it’s light enough to keep from squashing you flat. It tastes pretty good also, unlike that time when I was a kid and it was freezing outside and my brother told me the trolley pole tasted like caramel. At least I can taste the caramel in this one.

This had an average head.Color was a nice red-amber.Good biting dry aroma. This was a good tasting red,but it was more of an IPA to me.Not enough of the fruityness of a good red.It was tasty though
