22 ounce thanks to JohnCoctosin. Red colored body. Caramel and sugar. Nice malty aroma. Sweetness really carries this one.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draught at Karl Strauss/Old Columbia Grill, San Diego. Nice looking red beer. No real head or lacing. Raspberry aroma - always a winner with me. Very clean and smooth thru the palate, syruppy in fact. Some concealed forest fruits flavouring and general juicy base. Nice stuff - one of the best Karl Strauss beers tried.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draught at Karl Strauss La Jolla. Clear copper color with a ruddy hue. Toffee and subdued caramel aromas and flavors. Similar to the amber lager, but spicy and dry, lacking the buttery note. Pretty good.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Location: On tap at the SD Airport, 1/9/10
Aroma: This beer has lots of caramel malts and bread on the nose
Appearance: Dark reddish color with a head that leaves a lot of lace
Flavor: Taste is mostly sweet caramel malts and mild bitterness in the finish
Palate: Medium bodied and pretty drinkable with a soft carbonation
This beer was alright, it helped me kill some time in an airport. I’d drink it again, but I certainly wouldn’t suggest going out of the way for it. The real impression I have recorded in my notes is that is has a big caramel malt feel.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle thanks to Snojerk321. Pours a dark red with an offwhite head that goes quickly. Nose is bready and crystal malts, faint syrupy notes. Taste is better, much dryer than I expected with more of the sweet bready notes and a fruity hop character coming through with a touch of vanilla. Really, pretty decent for an amber.

3.1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Buttery diacetyl smell. Clear copper, thin yellow head. Like the Karl Strauss Pin tail I sampled immediately before this one, the flavor of tea dominates. Perhaps my glass didn’t get a good rinse. Clover and honey remains on the palate.

Draft, brewpub at LAX United terminal. Clear and dark amber-red with a small but lasting head. Sweet cereal and spice aroma. Flavor is toasted nut and spicy, tangy cereal grain. Light-medium body that is tingly and slightly dry. Pretty nice flavor.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JAN 23, 2008 Tap - Looks good, smells good. Caramelly malts dominate the flavor, but it’s actually balanced pretty well. Mild, pleasant hops bite in the finish.
