Bottle. Toasted Caramel sweet, lightly hopped. Something going on with the finish that makes it bitter in the back of the throat. I've had this on draft and enjoyed it much better.

(12 oz bottle: Hi-Time Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa, CA) Fairly flavorful, and the moderate caramely maltiness is partially balanced by a fairly mild hops, but the overall flavor seems kind of sugary and a little on the cheap side. The body is typical of the style, but the sugary palate is tiring. It definitely needs more hops to clean the palate and give this beer some character. The nose is sweet and caramely, and again, lacking sufficient hops. Red Trolley Ale is aptly named as the color is an attractive, very deep ruddy amber color, but given my general opinion of Karl Strauss beers, I have to wonder if there food coloring in this. Small, light tan head quickly fades to a wide brim around the edge of the glass. Whatever lace is left on the glass dissipates rapidly. Not a horrible beer, but too one-dimensional (i.e., sugary). Red Trolley Ale is aptly named for another reason: our trolley system in San Diego is servicable in certain situations, but generally not all that good.

I Don’t know why but this drink reminds me a lot of sierra nevada...Which isn’t a bad thing Since I love sierra Nevada. I liked this drink Although I prefer Stone’s as far as Local beer goes.

On tap at the brewpub on Columbia Street. Amber in color. Weak in aroma. Mild malty sweetness with honey flavors. Low carbonation. No head. Flavor is mild. Medium palate with little aftertaste.

Something about drinking amber ales in pints at "pubs" clicks with me. Had this one at the ESPN club in Anaheim. Dark amber, creamy palate with a nice malty taste. Some hops in finish, I detected little in the aroma department.

Copper pour with a medium tan head, which quickly dissapates. Somewhat thin-bodied. Virtually flat and uncarbonated texture. Roasted caramel and toffee malt with a lighly creamy texture. Very light hints of a floral hopping highlight. Average.

On tap at brewpub, Carlsbad, CA: Color is more brown than red with a beige colored head that mostly diminishes. Aroma of cheap cologne. Flavor was soapy with a bit of soggy maltiness. Disappointing.

Light malty aroma. Pours an amber red, thin head. Flavour is dominated by caramel malt. Sugary. I found it one-dimensional and dull

Tap @ Carlsbad. Pours an amber color with a somewhat generous white head. Aroma is slight hop with grain and malt notes detectable as well. Taste is sweet malt with a crisp hop characteristic at the end. Pretty smooth, though overall uninspiring.
