On tap at Karl’s in Costa Mesa. Medium tan with a very small white head. It has a light smokiness but it’s mainly sweet caramel malt. Some prune and raisin overtones. Leaves a nice sweet caramel aftertaste.

On tap at KnB. Luckily I asked for a taster before ordering an entire pint. Pours copper color. Aroma is some peat and smokiness but not much else. Taste is pretty subdued amounts of peat and malt.

On tap at their universal city location. Served in tumbler. Minimal head. Aroma is sweet malt with some smoky notes, chewy mouthfeel with low bitterness. Overall ok, however did expect a little more from a wee heavy.

Draft at the Carlsbad location. An amber beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of malt and caramel as well as light notes of alcohol, leading to a dry and slightly bitter finish, where the alcohol lingers. 22 IBU’s, my version was 6.0% ABV.

Poured clear brown with a minimal tan head/ring of bubbles. No lacing to speak of. Caramel and toffee aroma, along with a dark bread scent. Watery and loose mouthfeel, very uncharacteristic for a Scotch. Similar weakness in the flavor. More of the caramel and toffee, bread dough, and now a little chocolate malt. Minimal roastiness and zero smokiness. To quote the sluts on the latest ’Rock of Love’ installment: "lame."

From the tap poured a dark brown with a fair amount of thick head. Nice smooth sweet malty flavor with a quick finish.

On tap at the brew pub in downtown San Diego. Musty, malty aroma. Musty, mossy, and malty aromas, but very smooth. Decent scotch ale.

From tap at the brewpub in Carlsbad. Mild spiced and caramel malty. Sweet caramel and light tobacco hoppy accent in the flavour. Smooth caramel malty finish with a presisting light tobacco note.

Universal City location. My server said he strongly prefered last years batch over this one. Pours with a huge, creamy, off-white head covering a clear bronze body. Peat and some plums is all that I could real pull out of the faint aroma. Taste is bland with a very off-note like dirty, moldy socks. I thought a dirty tap, but the guy working their said that it is not the tap, but the beer, and he agrees that the batch was off. Mouthfeel is pretty good though, smooth with lively bubbles.
