3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: DEC 21, 2013 Bad bottle last time? Much fresher with better cleaner more moden hop definition. Green fruits are nice and there’s a mild ping of metal. Very slurpable.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Clear golden in color... Aroma of citrus and floral hops... Flavor is dominated by hop character, reminds me of sierra Nevada with bitter palate.... Solid

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: APR 19, 2013 This beer is actually better out of the bottle than it is straight from the tap. Pale orange with a thin white head. Very balanced, but the quality is "meh". Just doesn’t have that "wow" factor that most SD IPAs have. Good entry level IPA for those trying to broaden their palate.
Re-rate: tap at the Carlsbad location. They must’ve reworked the recipe. Flavor is much better. Distinct hop profile now... grass, lemon, pine. Aroma is still not really there. Palate is dryer and longer with the bitterness really settling on the tongue.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Hazy orange with a white head. Aroma is of sweet malt mixed with a little bit of citrus hops. More malt in the nose. The flavor is the same; mostly sweet malt with a tinge of hop bitterness on the finish. It’s possible this is not a fresh bottle, as there is no bottled on date. I like IPAs to have a little more hop character, but there is noting wrong with this beer. Very drinkable.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: FEB 25, 2014 Golden amber colour with thin white head and some lacing. Fruity hops aroma of grapefruit, grass and pine forest on the nose, but is perhaps restrained by a strong malt presence. Thin to medium oily body. A little sweet caramel maltiness on the tongue with a touch of spice, followed by a pleasantly strong bitterness that makes for a nice finish. This is a good beer, but perhaps a bit too strong on malt to let the hops shine through.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
light amber color, cherries and pale malt in the nose. Clean balanced mouth. Med body, not tons of depth or tons of hops, but enjoyable. Moderate dry finish.

1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 2/20
On draft at the SD airport. I will write this with the disclaimer that most (if not all) of the off flavors of this beer came from unclean taps at this awful airport bar. Nose of citrus, pineapple, spoiled cream. Taste was expired sour cream, dirty socks, pineapple and afterbirth.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
October 22nd, 2011 - It took less than a month in San Diego to realize that this part of the country is firmly IPA territory. It will probably take me longer to recognize that the whole country is IPA territory. One of the nudges that helped clarify the geographic specialization in San Diego for hops, hops and a pinch more hops. Green Flash has their hop heads behind the wheels, and so does Karl Strauss, evinced in the Tower 10 IPA. Cloudy and light orange, it looks good draped in a San Diego sunset, and inviting too. Faint notes of pineapple and mango give the Tower 10 a tropical edge, and a soft hops in the aroma suggests a semi-sweet, fruity IPA. In reality, and in flavor, this is a dry, savory, biscuity and bread brew. Carbonation pushes the beer around the palate, numbing the tongue, but then the brew bursts out with the strange taste of bread crust, and a touch of yeast with a long, long noble hops aftertaste. The brewery brags about the piles of Chinook that go into the process, but I totally missed the grapefruit notes. Still, this is an assertive IPA, and would probably go very well with a heavy plate of food after a day of trekking or surfing, or the myriad other things that seemed so "Californian" when I first arrived here.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from Dan Murphy’s. Great balance. Aromas of caramel, grass, and citrus. Taste is sweet and bitter, well balanced and long. Palate is velvety and dry, medium-full bodied. Amber, with a frothy head.
