COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mission Beach, the late 1980s. Amid a sea of neon bikinis, Tower 10 marked the spot where two college grads and a 75 year-old master brewer drew up plans for the first local craft brewery in San Diego since Prohibition. Named in honor of our first good idea, Tower 10 IPA is brewed to inspire the next one.

Tower 10 IPA boasts hops from beginning to end, and everywhere in between. We fill the brew kettle to the brim with assertive Chinook hops, giving the beer its intense grapefruit and pine flavors that linger through its dry finish. After fermentation, we dry hop with a blend of Cascade and Centennial hops for a floral citrus aroma. A touch of lightly kilned caramel malts make Tower 10 a well balanced, full flavor IPA.

Bottle received from thome50. Fairly clear amber, orange color with a large white head. Aroma has a hint of citrus and floral notes, with caramel also being present. Taste floral and slightly soapy. Caramel comes up mid palate and leads to a minutely bitter finish. Loads of lacing left on my glass. This really could have been much worse, and if it had a bit more hop presence could have been pretty good.

Tasted a 12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy amber/orange color with a medium-sized, foamy off-white head. Light lacing. I’m surprised that I like this as much as I do; I was expecting it to be a lot lighter and more forgettable than it is. The aroma is probably the most striking thing about this beer; it has a very fruity and sweet honey-lemon type of character. Flavors seem to follow suit at first, but soon develop into a bitter hoppiness that seems much more like a typical IPA. Also present is a healthy dose of malt flavor, and there’s a lingering, coffee-like aftertaste. This is a pretty good IPA overall; seems like Karl Strauss is beginning to offer more interesting beers lately (I really enjoyed their Big Barrel IPA as well).

This taste like sudsy dishwater and salt. I rather be hit with a tire iron than ever drink this again. The aftertaste is that of mucus and regret. Gross. There is a particular artisan habitat that the IPA lives in, and this Karl Strauss beer is not it. Ugh. I want to bleach my tongue.

Bomber. Pours a copper toned body with a mostly white head. No enough hops here, malty body with a faint grapefruit, light pine and a hint of citrus in the finish. Medium body, okay as a pub ale but nothing special. Hop up your IPA!

A 12 oz bottle from BevMo in Sacramento, this poured a clear copper with a moderate white head and light lacing. Nose is of citrus hops. Body is medium with a creamy smooth mouthfeel. Flavor is of caramel malts with citrus and floral hops giving good bitterness. Finish is quite bitter. A solid IPA in all respects.

Fruity, caramel maltiness on the nose. Pours a somewhat cloudy amber color. A little bitterness comes through on this one, but this gives me more of an East-Coast IPA vibe. Too malty for my liking, maybe a bit nutty with some earthiness. Finish is harmless, but nothing special.

Clear copper pour with small off-white head. moderate carbonation nose is piney and toasty malt medium mouthfeel, toasty malt + citrus notes, lingering grapefruit finish. not the greatest, leaves a grapefruit rind in my mouth.

Pours clearish orange with a medium size white head and sheet lace. Smells malty sweet and lightly floral hoppy. Might be old. On tap in C’Bad though. Tastes balanced. Sweet malts with some light floral hops and very little bitterness. Its ok. Medium body, ok carbonation.

Draft. An amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of hops as well as lighter notes of nuts. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of hops primarily lending it notes of hay, but with a good malt to balance it, and leading to a quite bitter finish.

On tap at Karl Strauss Costa Mesa. Pours clear copper with white head. Aromas of citrus, hops, and caramel malts. Flavor of bitter hops, citrus, alcohol, and sweet malts. Finishes with bitter hops and a bit of booze. Pretty harsh for a regular IPA.
