COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mission Beach, the late 1980s. Amid a sea of neon bikinis, Tower 10 marked the spot where two college grads and a 75 year-old master brewer drew up plans for the first local craft brewery in San Diego since Prohibition. Named in honor of our first good idea, Tower 10 IPA is brewed to inspire the next one.

Tower 10 IPA boasts hops from beginning to end, and everywhere in between. We fill the brew kettle to the brim with assertive Chinook hops, giving the beer its intense grapefruit and pine flavors that linger through its dry finish. After fermentation, we dry hop with a blend of Cascade and Centennial hops for a floral citrus aroma. A touch of lightly kilned caramel malts make Tower 10 a well balanced, full flavor IPA.

Bottle (room temperature)… Space Coast Craft Beer Festival 2011 … Murky, caramel-colored ale with very little head to speak of. The nose offers pistachio, caramel and toffee accompanied by floral, grapefruit and pine notes. Full-bodied and mildly creamy with moderate carbonation. The flavor is mostly sweet - definitely lacking West Coast bitterness, but the hop flavor is definitely there. Finishes bittersweet (more sweet than bitter).

Pours a very light orange color with a white head.Has a floral and citrus aroma to it.The flavor starts with a sweet malt up front and ends with a bitter hop taste.Gose down clean with a bitter aftertaste.Overall a good beer from San Diegos first craft brewery.

Bomber pours clear copper with light tan head. The aroma is pretty full with lots of malts, caramel malts and nuttiness with echoes of pine hops. I seem to have gotten an old bottle. The taste has aged blunted pine hop flavor and pine hop bitterness. The malts have made deep in-roads into the flavor. I need to try this again with a fresh bottle.

Decent IPA. The aroma is the best part with a strong honey and lemon zest character coming through with the hops. The appearance is light golden and orange. The taste has more malt than I expected with the hps only playing lightly on the tongue. Decent beer, but nothing special

Draft. Poured a clear copper color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate sour citrus aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium bitter flavor with a medium bitter finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.

Bottle received from thome50. Fairly clear amber, orange color with a large white head. Aroma has a hint of citrus and floral notes, with caramel also being present. Taste floral and slightly soapy. Caramel comes up mid palate and leads to a minutely bitter finish. Loads of lacing left on my glass. This really could have been much worse, and if it had a bit more hop presence could have been pretty good.

Tasted a 12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy amber/orange color with a medium-sized, foamy off-white head. Light lacing. I’m surprised that I like this as much as I do; I was expecting it to be a lot lighter and more forgettable than it is. The aroma is probably the most striking thing about this beer; it has a very fruity and sweet honey-lemon type of character. Flavors seem to follow suit at first, but soon develop into a bitter hoppiness that seems much more like a typical IPA. Also present is a healthy dose of malt flavor, and there’s a lingering, coffee-like aftertaste. This is a pretty good IPA overall; seems like Karl Strauss is beginning to offer more interesting beers lately (I really enjoyed their Big Barrel IPA as well).

This taste like sudsy dishwater and salt. I rather be hit with a tire iron than ever drink this again. The aftertaste is that of mucus and regret. Gross. There is a particular artisan habitat that the IPA lives in, and this Karl Strauss beer is not it. Ugh. I want to bleach my tongue.
