3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tap @ downtown location. Poured clear copper with a short white head. Minimal lacing. Light, grassy aroma with piney hops, white pepper, and citrus. Watery mouthfeel. Refreshing taste, mostly grapefruit and a light bitter resiny taste. Some mineral and bread flavors, dry finish. Came across as an IPA-lite.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from an unknown liquor store in Chula Vista: Created a half inch of fluffed white foam while the ale is an auburn hue. Iím able to smell a decent amount of hops as well as the alcohol content of the drink. The flavor ranges from a Karl Strauss signature style of malts and a faint background of pine and floral hops. Flavors are to minor and unsubstantial to give this IPA any worth deserving credentials.

From the tap poured amber with a fair amount of head. Hoppy flavor with a lasting finish.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours with an orange-amber body topped by a thick head with little lacing left on the glass. The aroma is nice...full of fresh green hop notes and light notes of orange. The flavor is citrusy (predominantly orange) with sweet notes, a little underlying hops and a note of alcohol. Kinda reminds me of a screwdriver. medium bodied, smooth and a bit dry.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: APR 17, 2009 Pour a nice copper color with a tan head. taste is malty with a okay bitter hop finish. does finish clean. however, this does seem to be a little water downed. while it is much better then Stargazer, it lacks the charcter and body of a great IPA.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
I was pretty impressed with this one. I donít really usually care for anything by KS, but this one was a bright and fresh IPA. Great aroma and the start of a strong flavor, but the finish gets a little washed out by harsh bitterness instead of hop charisma.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, from Henryís. $6.50 a six pack. This is a new release, apparently taking the place of Stargazer. Looks nice, smells nice, but the flavor is rather dull. Itís hoppy, but it lacks the brightness and fruitiness I crave in an IPA. For whatever reason, Karl Strauss bottled beer has never impressed me like their draft beers. My guess is that this is really good on tap. As it is now, itís just OK.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bland IPA.Bready and dry, sweet at first taste. Ends on a clean note. Amber with white head. Not the greatest IPA, and seems more like a APA.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JUN 15, 2009 Appearance: Pours a copper red with a dense, sudsy 1/2 inch white head. The body is rather clear, and has a modest level of visable carbonation. The beer leaves webby lacy rings all the way down the pint glass.
Aroma: Grapefruit rind, pine (pine needles and pine sap), a small, almost hidden level of bready malt, and sugary sweetness. Comes across very perfumy and floral, rather than citrusy.
Taste: A nice mouthful of bitter and citrusy hops in the beginning, and a finish of bready and caramel layer of malt. The bitter hops linger on my tongue well past the sip.
Mouthfeel: Thick, heavy.
Overall: A solid, full flavored, balanced IPA, showcasing some of the great qualities of a West Coast IPA, without going extreme. This beer has lots of body, lots of hops, and the right amount of malt. This is the best Karl Strauss beer in their lineup.
