COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mission Beach, the late 1980s. Amid a sea of neon bikinis, Tower 10 marked the spot where two college grads and a 75 year-old master brewer drew up plans for the first local craft brewery in San Diego since Prohibition. Named in honor of our first good idea, Tower 10 IPA is brewed to inspire the next one.

Tower 10 IPA boasts hops from beginning to end, and everywhere in between. We fill the brew kettle to the brim with assertive Chinook hops, giving the beer its intense grapefruit and pine flavors that linger through its dry finish. After fermentation, we dry hop with a blend of Cascade and Centennial hops for a floral citrus aroma. A touch of lightly kilned caramel malts make Tower 10 a well balanced, full flavor IPA.

Pungent hoppy aroma gives one a feeling of fear and excitement. Flavor of hops, lime, grapefruit. Has the aftertaste of eating the gross white part of an orange. Not nice. My guess is it comes from a hop variety that Iím not loving. I give cred for what they tried to do, but it doesnít do it for me

Fruity, caramel maltiness on the nose. Pours a somewhat cloudy amber color. A little bitterness comes through on this one, but this gives me more of an East-Coast IPA vibe. Too malty for my liking, maybe a bit nutty with some earthiness. Finish is harmless, but nothing special.

SD trip, Karl Strauss LaJolla, sampler, had these while having a larger DIPA, flavors and ratings may be rough: Nice light citrus/piney hop nose from dry hoping but really boring flavor esp compared to the DIPA at its side.

UPDATED: FEB 25, 2014 Golden amber colour with thin white head and some lacing. Fruity hops aroma of grapefruit, grass and pine forest on the nose, but is perhaps restrained by a strong malt presence. Thin to medium oily body. A little sweet caramel maltiness on the tongue with a touch of spice, followed by a pleasantly strong bitterness that makes for a nice finish. This is a good beer, but perhaps a bit too strong on malt to let the hops shine through.

pours a light orange with some citrus aromas, more citrus in the flavour with a subtle malt back bone, not bad at all.

Tasted a 12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy amber/orange color with a medium-sized, foamy off-white head. Light lacing. Iím surprised that I like this as much as I do; I was expecting it to be a lot lighter and more forgettable than it is. The aroma is probably the most striking thing about this beer; it has a very fruity and sweet honey-lemon type of character. Flavors seem to follow suit at first, but soon develop into a bitter hoppiness that seems much more like a typical IPA. Also present is a healthy dose of malt flavor, and thereís a lingering, coffee-like aftertaste. This is a pretty good IPA overall; seems like Karl Strauss is beginning to offer more interesting beers lately (I really enjoyed their Big Barrel IPA as well).

Pale and clear color. Very easy to drink, a little sweet with some bitter notes later on. Nothing remarkable but a decent easy to drink IPA.

Hazy orange with a white head. Aroma is of sweet malt mixed with a little bit of citrus hops. More malt in the nose. The flavor is the same; mostly sweet malt with a tinge of hop bitterness on the finish. Itís possible this is not a fresh bottle, as there is no bottled on date. I like IPAs to have a little more hop character, but there is noting wrong with this beer. Very drinkable.

Pours slightly cloudy amber. Balanced nose, a little fizzy but good palate. Medium finish. Above average.
