COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mission Beach, the late 1980s. Amid a sea of neon bikinis, Tower 10 marked the spot where two college grads and a 75 year-old master brewer drew up plans for the first local craft brewery in San Diego since Prohibition. Named in honor of our first good idea, Tower 10 IPA is brewed to inspire the next one.

Tower 10 IPA boasts hops from beginning to end, and everywhere in between. We fill the brew kettle to the brim with assertive Chinook hops, giving the beer its intense grapefruit and pine flavors that linger through its dry finish. After fermentation, we dry hop with a blend of Cascade and Centennial hops for a floral citrus aroma. A touch of lightly kilned caramel malts make Tower 10 a well balanced, full flavor IPA.

Tap at airport. Bright orange with thick lasting white head. Nose is grassy and pine resin hips with some malt sweetness. Flavor is bread malts up front with modest hop bitterness and low pine hop flavor, finishes dry and bitter. Medium body and carbonation, slick texture. A very standard west coast IPA with decent bitterness but underwhelming hop flavors, still quite drinkable in a pinch!

A solid IPA, but lots of issues. The malt is very weak in both flavor, color and texture. It tastes like they were trying to be really cheap with the hops. Overly bitter, very light on hop aroma or flavor. I guess they are trying to do the opposite of the SoCal hop-bomb? KS gets old school credit, but when he is playing with Pizza Port and Stone, he gets left behind.

Clear copper pour with small off-white head. moderate carbonation nose is piney and toasty malt medium mouthfeel, toasty malt + citrus notes, lingering grapefruit finish. not the greatest, leaves a grapefruit rind in my mouth.

On tap at Long Beach Airport. Bitterness throughout turning harsh towards the end. A thick malty background that is a bit overpowering and funky.

330 ml bottle. Pours a clear amber with a one-finger white head. Pine resin and flowers on the nose. The taste is dominated by hops as you might expect. Good malt backbone underlies pine and citrus flavours. Assertive bitterness typical of the style is present but doesn’t overwhelm. Dry finish but a slightly sweet fruity aftertaste lingers. Fine example of a West Coast IPA.

Appearance was hazy orangish gold with creamy white lasting 1 finger head, rings of lacing. Aromas are citrus fruits, caramel and pale malts with soft pine and earthy leather. Taste are orange, grapefruit upfront gives way to toffee sweetness, then pine back with clean yeasts. Palate was smooth creamy CO2 with medium body, then fruity piney lasting finish. A solid SD IPA, tad to sweet.

Tapped at Karl Strauss at the Universal Studios in Los Angeles. Wonderul aroma of exotic hops and much citrus. Color was light golden, white head, vanished quickly but kept a a tiny level. Taste was refreshing, a good malt basis plus a lot of bitter citrus mango leeches hops. After a 4 hour walk through the Universal Studios this was an excellent beer!

Bottle received from thome50. Fairly clear amber, orange color with a large white head. Aroma has a hint of citrus and floral notes, with caramel also being present. Taste floral and slightly soapy. Caramel comes up mid palate and leads to a minutely bitter finish. Loads of lacing left on my glass. This really could have been much worse, and if it had a bit more hop presence could have been pretty good.

355mL bottle (from dan murphy’s). Pours clear copper with a very nice sweet pine aroma with citrus notes. Dry bitterness to begin then a get the sweet piney resinous flavours. Very well balanced, nice beer.
