COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mission Beach, the late 1980s. Amid a sea of neon bikinis, Tower 10 marked the spot where two college grads and a 75 year-old master brewer drew up plans for the first local craft brewery in San Diego since Prohibition. Named in honor of our first good idea, Tower 10 IPA is brewed to inspire the next one.

Tower 10 IPA boasts hops from beginning to end, and everywhere in between. We fill the brew kettle to the brim with assertive Chinook hops, giving the beer its intense grapefruit and pine flavors that linger through its dry finish. After fermentation, we dry hop with a blend of Cascade and Centennial hops for a floral citrus aroma. A touch of lightly kilned caramel malts make Tower 10 a well balanced, full flavor IPA.

Bottle code 12:04, 0705. Light body, crispy malts like a weak pale ale. Light hops, some pine, lemon citrus. Not too much flavor going on. Clean brew. Bland, would not recommend to someone expecting a typical West Coast IPA from San Diego, put in same class of a Red Hook IPA.

Bottle at friend’s place. He got this one for free--good thing. Not much going on here, nose is kinda of like unfermented wort--he said grape nuts and he was right. Flavor is bitter up front, a little grapefruit. Backend is kind of skunky. Meh.

Fruity, caramel maltiness on the nose. Pours a somewhat cloudy amber color. A little bitterness comes through on this one, but this gives me more of an East-Coast IPA vibe. Too malty for my liking, maybe a bit nutty with some earthiness. Finish is harmless, but nothing special.

UPDATED: FEB 25, 2014 Golden amber colour with thin white head and some lacing. Fruity hops aroma of grapefruit, grass and pine forest on the nose, but is perhaps restrained by a strong malt presence. Thin to medium oily body. A little sweet caramel maltiness on the tongue with a touch of spice, followed by a pleasantly strong bitterness that makes for a nice finish. This is a good beer, but perhaps a bit too strong on malt to let the hops shine through.

SD trip, Karl Strauss LaJolla, sampler, had these while having a larger DIPA, flavors and ratings may be rough: Nice light citrus/piney hop nose from dry hoping but really boring flavor esp compared to the DIPA at its side.

pours a light orange with some citrus aromas, more citrus in the flavour with a subtle malt back bone, not bad at all.

Tasted a 12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy amber/orange color with a medium-sized, foamy off-white head. Light lacing. I’m surprised that I like this as much as I do; I was expecting it to be a lot lighter and more forgettable than it is. The aroma is probably the most striking thing about this beer; it has a very fruity and sweet honey-lemon type of character. Flavors seem to follow suit at first, but soon develop into a bitter hoppiness that seems much more like a typical IPA. Also present is a healthy dose of malt flavor, and there’s a lingering, coffee-like aftertaste. This is a pretty good IPA overall; seems like Karl Strauss is beginning to offer more interesting beers lately (I really enjoyed their Big Barrel IPA as well).

Bottle. Pours an Earthy Red Colour. Aroma is of Sweet Citrus. Taste. Can taste some Piney bitterness with also notes of Citrus followed by a candy sweetness. Overall. A good beer, certainly not one of the best, but still worth buying again.

Pale and clear color. Very easy to drink, a little sweet with some bitter notes later on. Nothing remarkable but a decent easy to drink IPA.
