COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mission Beach, the late 1980s. Amid a sea of neon bikinis, Tower 10 marked the spot where two college grads and a 75 year-old master brewer drew up plans for the first local craft brewery in San Diego since Prohibition. Named in honor of our first good idea, Tower 10 IPA is brewed to inspire the next one.

Tower 10 IPA boasts hops from beginning to end, and everywhere in between. We fill the brew kettle to the brim with assertive Chinook hops, giving the beer its intense grapefruit and pine flavors that linger through its dry finish. After fermentation, we dry hop with a blend of Cascade and Centennial hops for a floral citrus aroma. A touch of lightly kilned caramel malts make Tower 10 a well balanced, full flavor IPA.

I was pretty impressed with this one. I donít really usually care for anything by KS, but this one was a bright and fresh IPA. Great aroma and the start of a strong flavor, but the finish gets a little washed out by harsh bitterness instead of hop charisma.

Bottle from an unknown liquor store in Chula Vista: Created a half inch of fluffed white foam while the ale is an auburn hue. Iím able to smell a decent amount of hops as well as the alcohol content of the drink. The flavor ranges from a Karl Strauss signature style of malts and a faint background of pine and floral hops. Flavors are to minor and unsubstantial to give this IPA any worth deserving credentials.

Decent IPA on tap. Moderate hops - some pine notes. Decent brew - moderate mouthfeel. Not bad but not memorable.

12oz bottle. Pours slightly cloudy, medium copper with a creamy white head. I light lace in the glass that dissipated quickly. Aroma is bitter citrus and piney. Taste is what you would expect from the aroma. It finishes with a bitter malt flavor that leaves an antiseptic taste on my tongue.

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass. Pours a deep cherry amber with no head whatsoever. Aroma is sticky sweet fruitiness which continues throughout this indulgent caramel hop flavor. This IPA seems conflicted to me, like it canít make up tiís mind between being a sweet and hoppy IPA or a full fledged dessert beer. Itís a jack of all trades, but a master of none. R.I.P. Stargazer.

Pours copper with a white head. Aroma of pine and citrus hops. Nice balance, but not an overpowering IPA. Decent flavor, nice body.

Bottled. Poured into pint glass. Mild aroma, nothing strong. Nice color that is dark amber, very little head. It taste a little under carbonated, and possibly not fresh. I think this is my first experience with this beer, so I donít know what it might be like if very fresh. It was a gift from a friend, purchased at Cost Plus, so Iím thinking it might have been sitting on a warm shelf awhile. Might try again if known fresh and rerate.

Draft at brewpub. Light golden amber pour, white head. Nice hoppy citrus aroma. Flavor is more mutted and not as interesting, some grainy malt, citrus and hops.

Brown coloured beer with a brown head and almost no carbonation. Roasty malty aroma with some light fruity hints. Medium to full creamy palate. Finish is sweet bitter hoppy with a sharper ending. Nice brew.

On tap at Karl Strauss Costa Mesa. Pours clear copper with white head. Aromas of citrus, hops, and caramel malts. Flavor of bitter hops, citrus, alcohol, and sweet malts. Finishes with bitter hops and a bit of booze. Pretty harsh for a regular IPA.
