COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mission Beach, the late 1980s. Amid a sea of neon bikinis, Tower 10 marked the spot where two college grads and a 75 year-old master brewer drew up plans for the first local craft brewery in San Diego since Prohibition. Named in honor of our first good idea, Tower 10 IPA is brewed to inspire the next one.

Tower 10 IPA boasts hops from beginning to end, and everywhere in between. We fill the brew kettle to the brim with assertive Chinook hops, giving the beer its intense grapefruit and pine flavors that linger through its dry finish. After fermentation, we dry hop with a blend of Cascade and Centennial hops for a floral citrus aroma. A touch of lightly kilned caramel malts make Tower 10 a well balanced, full flavor IPA.

Velmi dobrá IPA. Stylové lahve a obal, plná chuť, tmavší jantarová barva, hustá pěna. Lahváč v San Franciscu.

UPDATED: NOV 23, 2009 Poured clear, dark gold in color. Great aroma--tons of pine, citrus. Flavor was clean, bright, very hoppy. FInished dry with lingering bitterness. Solid IPA.

This is possibly Karl Strauss’ BEST publicly-available offering. It’s a well-balanced San Diego-style IPA with perfect hoppiness combined with a mild alcohol feel and light refreshing malt tones which linger just long enough to make you thirsty for another sip. There are overlying subtleties of nuts, toast, roasty, resin, grass and herbs, This is a well-done IPA from a great German-style brewer.

I was initially bummed out by the beer.. I’m quite the hop-head and despite the 60 IBUs this beer has, the first sip on the tongue has very little bite to it. It starts off super malty, however sticking to its IPA name, its got a dry, bitter after-taste that lingers for some time. Extremely drinakable beer and great for those times when you want a beer with some bite but don’t want a right-off-the-bat palate destroyer.

My favorite beer from Karl Strauss. Great amber color. Crisp IPA with a fast rising hoppy flavor. Finishes with a pure hoppy aroma and taste. Body is lighter than some IPA’s which makes it an easy to drink but high quality IPA. Has become one of my favorite beers to keep in the fridge.

This is very tasty stuff.. Very Drinkable, The 6.5% does a very good job at hiding itself in the taste. Quenched my thirst and also sells for an appropriate price.

Yummy and full flavored, yet light enough to refresh. This reminds me off many days at a beach bar, relaxing with a great beer after a nice day in the sun. The citrus and pine are light and refreshing, it just screams San Diego!

6 pack from dan murphys, poured into tulip glass, aromas of passion fruit and grapefruit, clear amber colour, taste is the same as aromas with a sharp bitterness, has good length, a very good session ale and well priced

I poured a 12oz bottle into a tulip glass. I couldn’t find a freshness date. I got this from #BBC13.

Appearance: An opaque, dark shade of orange. Forms a large, off white, frothy head that retains and laces pretty well.

Smell: Sweet, clean aroma of orange and pine. Almost candy-like.

Taste: I was skeptical about Karl Strauss Tower 10 IPA, because the last time I tried it I really didn’t like it (long story). But now that I’m drinking it under ideal conditions I’m actually quite surprised how appealing it is now. Plenty of hop bitterness and flavor, but a prominent malt presence to give it true balance (which is surprising considering the city in which it’s made).

The first thing I notice is how sweet the malt base is. According to the brewery’s website, it’s made with a touch of lightly-kilned caramel malts, and it shows. Sweet yes, but nothing cloying or sticky as is often the case in bigger beers of the style. It’s also made with Chinook hops which tend to have astringent bitterness, but in this case they’re even out well with the Cascade and Centennial dry hops. Significant pine flavor throughout the first half of the palette, follow by citrusy tartness on the finish. I detect a hint of sweet tea or some kind of earthy/herbal character, but it’s restrained enough to make it genuinely pleasurable.

Drinkability: At 70 IBUs and 7% ABV, you’d think Tower 10 IPA wouldn’t be that easy to drink. While it certainly has an energetic presence in the mouth, the delivery itself is comfortable from start to finish. The hops do linger, but are tolerable for sure. I could see this beer being quite versatile.

Hazy amber/golden colour. Classic hoppy ipa aroma. Sweet, piney taste with a good malt balance. Great aftertaste. Bitter.
