COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mission Beach, the late 1980s. Amid a sea of neon bikinis, Tower 10 marked the spot where two college grads and a 75 year-old master brewer drew up plans for the first local craft brewery in San Diego since Prohibition. Named in honor of our first good idea, Tower 10 IPA is brewed to inspire the next one.

Tower 10 IPA boasts hops from beginning to end, and everywhere in between. We fill the brew kettle to the brim with assertive Chinook hops, giving the beer its intense grapefruit and pine flavors that linger through its dry finish. After fermentation, we dry hop with a blend of Cascade and Centennial hops for a floral citrus aroma. A touch of lightly kilned caramel malts make Tower 10 a well balanced, full flavor IPA.

Clear amber with medium foamy head. Mild aroma of woodsy and piney hops. Watery to slightly fluffy feel from carbonation. Just a bit of btie on the tip of the tongue. More flavor from the roast than the hops. Woodsy, grassy, slightly resiny hop. Finishes pretty clean, the finishing bitterness remains more on the tip and top of the tongue instead of the back. A decent pale, but falls short of expectations for an IPA.

Very subdued aroma. No citrus, no pine, no flowers. Good looking copper/amber color. High carbonation almost bordering on belgian like brett effervescence. However everyithing is unremarkable. Not a session beer that I would pick up again....

Pours a rich copper color. Aroma of fruit and pine. Taste of hoppy bitterness with a touch of fruityness. A dry finish and aftertaste. Overall a good IPA, with a crisp ending.

Bottle at friend’s place. He got this one for free--good thing. Not much going on here, nose is kinda of like unfermented wort--he said grape nuts and he was right. Flavor is bitter up front, a little grapefruit. Backend is kind of skunky. Meh.

Brown in colour. Thick foamy head that pours way to large. When poured into a glass the head is almost as high as the liquid. Even out of the bottle the head spills over the neck. Strong floral hop flavour and aroma. Slight bitter aftertaste. Lots of citrus and pine

SD trip, Karl Strauss LaJolla, sampler, had these while having a larger DIPA, flavors and ratings may be rough: Nice light citrus/piney hop nose from dry hoping but really boring flavor esp compared to the DIPA at its side.

On tap at the brew outlet on Columbia St, San Diego on 18th March 2014. Misty old gold in appearance with whatever head there was dissipating before it reached my table, just a wisp and collar on my pour. Citrus nose and flavour with a mild semi-sweet malty background. A little thin in the body, not watery, but getting that way. OK but not really my thing.

Bomber. Sucks to start of Friday evening with a negative post and dissapointing IPA. Aroma lacks any nose an IPA should have. Smells somewhat piney, on the verge of pure funkiness. Flavor is similiar. Mainly caramel malts and lacking on hop bite or flavor. Nothing to brag about on the finish either. Not a good representation of an IPA. Maybe I purchased a bad bottle??

Bottle: From a sample pack at Bev and More. Tower 10 is a good into into IPA’s, light not too intimidating. But if you have experienced more intense IPAs this will leave you flat.

This taste like sudsy dishwater and salt. I rather be hit with a tire iron than ever drink this again. The aftertaste is that of mucus and regret. Gross. There is a particular artisan habitat that the IPA lives in, and this Karl Strauss beer is not it. Ugh. I want to bleach my tongue.
