Bottle, 06/26/2012. Thanks to LtDan the man. Light, cloudy copper pour, thin white head doesn’t last long, spotty lacing. Dank, herbal hops, orange citrus, caramel malts heavy, not your typical Cali IPA profile. Smooth citrusy hops, subtle pine edge, almost blending in with caramel backbone, bitterness fighting back in the finish. Medium resinous body, expansive almost like a barley wine. Not the aggressive IIPA offering one might expect, an interesting change-up.

Bomber purchased at Bine & Vine ($7.49). Pours a slightly hazy red / dark amber color with two fingers of off-white foam. Aroma does not exactly jump out but there are notes of pine, honey, and a bit of citrus. Flavor of smooth caramel with notes of tangerine, grapefruit, and herbs. The sweetness trumps the bitterness here. The high ABV is quite well hidden here. A very malt-forward and not very complex DIPA, but I still find this highly quaffable. (24, 734)

Pours a amber-honey color with a small off white head which fades to some lacing. aroma is of citrus, some pine, some biscuit malts, and some caramel malts. flavor is similar with a lot of lemon, and caramel a tad bit of booze, and is generally maltier then I thought it would be. Has a medium-full body with slightly creamy mouthfeel and oily, bitter finish. overall, a pretty good DIPA that is a not has hoppy as other great SD DIPA’s.

Picked up a corny keg for my kegirator. Pours a cloudy straw, small head and lively bubbles. Aroma is weak for a DIPA. Flavor isn’t overly hoppy, big maltiness. Notes of mild citrus and some floral. I didn’t realize it was 9.5 ABV until now, is it is well hidden. Easy to drink. Not what I would call a true DIPA, except for the ABV. I wanted this to be big, bold and hopped out.

Poured from a 22-oz. bomber into a pint glass. About two fingers of head. Color was caramel honey toffee. Brownish white lacing with some bubbles on the top. Wet, uneven and sporadic film on the sides. Smelled lemon citrus hops up front. Also some lime piny notes in there. Sweet floral notes. Fairly malty, but still refreshing on the nose. Very balanced taste, could hardly taste the alcohol. Lemon citrus hops really came through here. The maltiness seemed to balance the citrus hops out. So smooth. Medium body. Average carbonation. Slight bitter, but smooth finish. Refreshing feeling. Really liked this beer as I do with most of the ones from Karl Strauss. Smoot h and very drinkable.

Pours nice copper color with thin white head. Some decent lacing is there. Aroma is fairly light forms 2ipa. But definitely.nice. Flavor is smooth hopes as if they first wort hopped or mashed with hops. Not bitter but a bit of smooth malt sweetness. Finish is light hops. Not extreme hoppy for the style but pith and drinkable at 9.5%.

22 oz bottle from the local Albertson’s here in SD. Pours cloudy orange with a creamy head. Aroma is floral hops and belgian yeast. Taste is big grapefruit and floral hops, with a slightly sweet and syrupy mouthfeel. Nice nutty malt body brings the ABV up to balance. Finishes bitter but not pucker-worthy. Not spectacular, especially considering the local competition in this category, but a solid IIPA.

Not an overwhelming aroma, hoppy and citrus. Pours clear orange with a white head. Nice hop flavors balanced with a good malt backbone, smooth finish with lingering citrus flavors.
