Beneath the tides off Mission Beach rests Wreck Alley – a dark and mysterious seascape of forgotten ships. Amidst the rusted wreckage is a marine ecosystem, an artificial reef teeming with life. Our Wreck Alley is as dark as the depths of its namesake, an Imperial Stout of uncharted complexity. Brewed with darkly kilned malts, cocoa nibs, and Ethiopian coffee beans, Wreck Alley boasts rich layers of dark chocolate, toffee, and espresso-like roast. Save a bottle. This one has a stout shelf-life.

Tap at the brewery, 4S Ranch. Pours black with brown highlights and a medium, frothy beige head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma is roast, chocolate, and coffee malt with prunes and leather, light earthy hops. Flavor is dark malt dominant, coffee notes, earthy hops and light bitterness, dark fruits and a dry finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

OK iso vaahto, pysyy kohtalaisesti, sulaa kyllä nopeasti, eli 2.5/5.. Perus normi tuoksu, ei kommentoitavaa. Kohtalaisen kirpeähkö suutuntuma. Laimea, laimea.

Bomber. Courtesy of olio. Enjoyed at the ISKTR 2014. Black colour with a small tan head. Chili... no... coffee in the aroma. Malt and dark coffee in the aroma. The flavour is malt, coffee, black coffee, ashy dryness and mild hops. Too much coffee. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

65 cl bottle @ ISKTR 2014.
Pours dark red, almost black color with a small off-white head. The coffee feels a bit old here, not that fresh. Vanilla and chocolate on the flavor, some roasty malts, maybe molasses. Could be a lot better fresh but decent still.

March 22nd, 2013 - Here’s Karl Strauss’ end bracket to their beer line-up - the edge of the map, after which it’s inky black seas and unknown monstrosities. In other words, this is as dark and intense as it gets at Karl Strauss (at least at my visit), with a tar black body and a smoldering dark cinnamon colored head. Dark roasted coffee joined with rich espresso notes and dark chocolate comprise a bold and rich nose. Meanwhile, a foamy, soft, and dense palate coats the palate in the velvety flavors of dark chocolate and the foam on espresso, nicely balancing bitter and sweet. This is definitely one of the more interesting and finely tuned brews I’ve had from Karl Strauss, and will be a key motivator for my return in the future.

22oz bottle - More and more of these new beers from Karl Strauss really deliver quality and affordability, which to me makes a good beer/brewer kicked up a few notches. The beer pours out a deep black body, not an ounce of light getting thru with a dense, creamy 1-finger khaki head. Aroma is baker’s chocolate, scorched marshmallows, black licorice, and roasted malts/coffee. The beer really shines with a very nice depth of flavor, found in many higher priced imperial stouts. An impressive medley of coffee/chocolate flavors, but there’s also a bit of green pepper/green-ness about this with a woody hoppy-whisper. Alcohol is kept under wraps for the most part. Super high drinkability, not heavy in any way...dept of flavor, great price...highly recomennded

On tap at the San Diego downtown brewpub. It poured a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma was of dark roasted hops. The taste was of chocolate with a bitter hop aftertaste. Nice.
