For me the best of the three big brewerie beers in Croatia. Orange colour, with hopy and malty aroma, but not to bitter

An orange beer with a thin white head. The aroma is sweet malty with light notes of metal and straw, while the flavor only is sweet malty with light notes of metal. A typical Eastern European Pale Lager.

Bottle. Another new country for me. This was pretty crap, fizzy and thin, and that is really about all i can say.

UPDATED: MAY 29, 2008 Rerate: an accidental repurchase but an opportunity to amend the record with a fresher bottle. Above-average Euro-lager with some nice bready malt notes. Original rate: This sample at a Sydney gathering was two weeks past its ’best by’ date but that doesn’t entirely explain how poor it seemed. Pale gold, thin head. Piercingly phenolic for a 5% abv pale lager with some chalkiness, sulphur and pale malt. Fizzy palate. Sweet with sour notes in the mouth. Faint fruitiness and minimal bitterness. No real finish. Not very good at all. (Duff homecoming gathering)

Can. Golden colour with a small white head. Weak malty, metallic aroma and a sweet malty, straw taste. Medium body with a light sweet finish.

Wonderful beer... haven’t tried any in the states yet, although brought a bottle back from Pula. It seemed to be everywhere, but it was a strong beer with a great flavor to it. Not refined, but def. lovely. Wish I had taken more bottles back, b/c US version is only 5%. Unlike the 8+ of the real stuff.

Saarlander (1686) - Saarlouis, GERMANY - NOV 22, 2005
Poured with a nice white head, but almost no hops to speak of, malt is lacking too, quite watery, not much to it. Similar to many BMC beers, not good. It might be ok on a hot summer day, but It needs more hopping.

Poured nice gold color with a generous stiff white head. Aromas of grain, hops, straw. Taste of slighty sour malt, mild hops, yeast. Reminded me of many now-gone American beers from my youth - Schmidts, Ortieb, and Shaefer and Carling come to mind. It’s not the greatest, and it’s between a lager and a pilsener in character. There are better examples of both but if it’s Karlovacko or Bud Light, go with the K.
