Slightly skunky aroma with some sulfur and maybe some malt too. Clear, dark straw with a lasting white cover. Watery and a bit tangy, not so fresh hops flavour that is just slightly too sweet to be crisp. Light body, medium carbonation, lasting sweet tang that is not so pleasant in the finish. Pale gold with white head, heavily carbonated. Pongy aroma with sulpher notes, cardboardy, thin and tinny, pretty bad and very expensive. Borresteijn (1401), Amsterdam, Netherlands

| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 25, 2007 Minimal ocean-foam, white head disintegrates in under a half minute. After that, er, premature performance, I’m left with a medium gold hued beer. Very light malt, some dough and straw are the first aromatic impressions. Underneath there’s just a bit of grassy hops. The flavour is light, but sweet overall, with a honeyed feel to it. The profile is quite clean, but underpowered and singular. At the finish there is a barely detectable bitterness. Carbonation is brisk and adds some life to the beer--works well with the lighter body. The texture has a fair amount of stickiness to it, given the lightness of the beer overall. It’s bland, but not riddled with faults. With just a little more hops and malt it could manage to be average. 50cl, Leffe goblet, 08/08. bigcat03 (191), Lincoln, Nebraska, USA

Cafe Castelvecchia on the Piazza del Signoria in Florence...oh, I’m rating a BEER! That’s right! Probably the least remarkable of the beers I had whilst in Europe. Basic everything. More like a bland pale lager than anything resembling the words "classic" or "German".
