COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Born on the crest of a wave and rocked in the cradle of the deep. April 1, 1893 marks the birth of the CPO rating, and this bold Red Ale celebrates that tradition.

Copper, clear, tan head. Bready and toasty malt, some nutty notes, noticeable diacetyl, resiny-pine hops.

Pours a clear dark red body with a small fizzy amber head that faded to a thin film. The nose is quite sweet and husky with a bit of a butterscotch undertone. The flavor isnít much better. Weak and watery caramel with a really husky astringent note. Finishes sweet and rather bland with a burnt caramel note. Lighter bodied with a slight stickiness and soft fizzy carbonation. Not exactly a role model for the style. I hope their other beers are better than this one.

Bottle:   Deep amber, nearly burnt caramel in color, moderate foamy tannish head, little lacing.   Nutty/grainy aroma.   Very little hop appearance, also seems rather biscuity.   Very biscuity on the tongue, sweet maltiness, a little nutty, bready, almost in that whole wheat sense.   Thankfully it has some sweetness to counteract that whole wheat punch.   Slight hop presense on the backside.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Lingering breadiness, nutiness, with a dose of biscuitiness.   Lots of "ness" in this one, except for much hops.   Really needed a bit more hops to balance it out.   Thankfully it wasnít too heavy or cloying.

Pours a dark red/brown body with a two finger white foamy head, foamy lacing is left in the wake but spider webs adequately; smell has a sharp sweet caramel (whoah, interesting, wasnít expecting that), slightly herbal and earthy; the taste is very sweet, perhaps a bit over the top on the sweetness level, deep caramel yet also a weird plum aftertaste (weird, not sure how desirable this is, at least to me), dry finish; palate is light to medium, somewhat sessionable, carbonation seems ok for the style and good for me; overall: a very caramel forward American Amber/Red Ale, wow, holy caramel beer, not sure if I would have this again....

Reddish amber in color, clear with a thin head. Nice easy drink amber ale. Light, balanced and good finish.

22. Pours a deeply rubied dark amber, perfectly clear. Loose tannish head. Big wet malty nose, lots of bread crust and dark brown bread aroma. Maybe a little too earthy, almost leathery. Creamy medium body with soft carb. Maybe a little slick in spots. Brown bread and bread crusts on the mid palate. Mild bready finish.

SHIG (3534) - Wasilla, Alaska, USA - SEP 28, 2012
Bottle: Poured a deep mahogany brown with reddish tint, head was creamy tan. Aroma is bread and sweet malt. Taste is creamy with strong malt character, finish dry. The alcohol is well hidden in this gem.

22oz bottle. Clear red/amber with a small off white head that quickly vanishes. Aroma of toffee, biscuit dough and light herbal/citrus. Flavor is rich and doughy with some caramel and a light hop bitterness. Medium body with a mild carbonation. This is a nice malty beer, fairly drinkable but could maybe use a bit more carbonation.
