3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bomber. Brownish amber colored with a half-inch of tan foam. Mostly dark fruits, caramel malt and brown sugar in the aroma. Flavor is predominately caramel, dates and malt at the start along with some prune, molasses, raisin and resiny hops bitterness. Also a noticeable bourbon-like alcohol presence in the background. The body is thick and syrupy with naturally soft carbonation and more dark sugars and booze in the finish. Lots of complex flavors to chew on even if it is a bit rough around the edges.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle:   Deep dirty caramel, moderate to large frothy off-white head, fairly nice lacing.   Sweet caramel malt nose, a bit bready, little hop character.   Soft hops up front, a bit malty, slight biscuit, but also a
little astringent.   Has a little metallic tinge to it.   Seems malty up front, but falls off a bit towards the back.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Somewhat of a salty caramel and bready finish.   A little
rough, and not as sweet as it should be.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Hides the 12% well, but still remains warming.   Finishes very bready, some caramel, a bit rich, but also this medicinal/perfume like presense.
Finish is a little rough, otherwise okay.   However, needs to be sweeter, perhaps less alcohol, and with a bit more hop bite.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Growler from the brewery. Deep dark amber with a small off white head. Aroma is dark caramel, dried cherries and some biscuits. Flavor is mostly sweet and malty... caramel, bread and burnt sugar, there is some hop bitterness in there too as well as a warming alcohol presence. Medium to full body with mild carbonation and a thick syrupy mouth feel that coats the mouth. Nice barley wine, kind of in between an English and American style.
