Bottle from Bottleworks, Seattle
Dark amber-brown color with red hue, and small creamy head. The aroma is quite nutty, some caramel, light alcohol. Caramel and malt flavor, the alcohol punch is quite evident, nutty side too; correct bitterness.
A boozy Barley Wine, not bad, but not convincing too.

22 oz. bottle, pours a dark caramel brown with a small tan head. Aroma of caramel malts, booze and brown sugar -- lots of heat here. Flavour brings out caramel, alcohol, and candied sugar. Alcohol is revealing though not too burning. Pretty simplistic for a barley wine -- not very complex. Drinkable, but rather hot.

Sampled at Toronado 2009 Barleywine Festival. Pours clear amber with gold edges and thin off white head. The aroma is mild with hints of molasses, dark fruitiness and a background of malts. The taste is rich and delicious with a pulse of both deep dried dark fruitiness and sweet smooth molasses. It remains that way into the finish allowing for independent cherry, plum and sugar stewed raisins to be identified. It approaches being peppery but never actually gets there. Maybe a year or so will improve it from very nice to stellar.

Bottle:   Deep dirty caramel, moderate to large frothy off-white head, fairly nice lacing.   Sweet caramel malt nose, a bit bready, little hop character.   Soft hops up front, a bit malty, slight biscuit, but also a little astringent.   Has a little metallic tinge to it.   Seems malty up front, but falls off a bit towards the back.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Somewhat of a salty caramel and bready finish.   A little rough, and not as sweet as it should be.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Hides the 12% well, but still remains warming.   Finishes very bready, some caramel, a bit rich, but also this medicinal/perfume like presense.   Finish is a little rough, otherwise okay.   However, needs to be sweeter, perhaps less alcohol, and with a bit more hop bite.

From a 22 oz bottle shared at home. Pours a clear brownish amber with a tan head. Malty nose. Flavors of caramel and some tropical fruit. Medium to heavy bodied and moderate carbonation. Hides the alcohol well. Smooth and well balanced.
