   AROMA 8/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 8/10   PALATE 3/5   OVERALL 15/20

Deep dark brown coloured body with a thick two centimetre tall lighter brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, alcohol, chocolate, cherries, strawberries and a bit of icing sugar. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong roasted malt flavours with a lot of chocolate bitterness and a good rich cherry flavour that pokes through some of the bitterness. Aftertaste shows a good complexity with a little nuttiness, some oats and quite a bit of earthy malt, coupled with a lot of milky and soft chocolate flavours. Overall, a nice robust beer with a ton of nice flavour and a soft finish, despite the bitterness up front. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Brown Jug in Anchorage (Old Seward Location) on 26-May-2013 for US$7.99 sampled at home in New Paltz, New York on 29-November-2013.

Bottle. Pours a near black color with a moderate light brown head on it. Nose is mostly cherry forward with a little chocolate in there and just a hint of roasting. I donít find it too flavorful, with just a bit of chocolate and cherry in there underneath the roasting.

Black body, decent head. wonderful cherry nose. Black barley body with a tincture of cherry, a touch of thinness from the fruit, but still a decent amount of body. Powerful stuff.

22, Pours black with a gigantic tan head, explosive, rushing over the lip of the glass. Lots of webby, sedimentary lace. Rich chocolatey nose showing some vanilla and no shortage of aluminum. Creamy, slightly slick medium body with soft carb. Chocolate and tons of aluminum on the mid palate. Cherries definitely got way out ahead of them on this one, pity. Sweetish finish.

Bottle:   Deep brown, moderate tannish head, frothy, nice lacing.   Chocolate nose, dark or bakers like, subtle cherry, some alcohol and a tad of roasted malts.   Cherry starts to stand out as it warms.   On the tongue its somewhat mild, a little chocolate, cherry, alcohol, but also a little medicinal or metallic notes.   As Tom said, aluminum is noticeable.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Bakers chocolate, dusty chocolate covered cherries, faint ash/campfire, and a little bit of metal on the finish.   Not half bad, not big, while a bit alcoholic it doesnít feel like 8.5%, but the metallic notes detract.   Could stand to be richer, as body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Slight dark pitted fruit linger.   Some flaws, but entertaining at least.

Dark brown in color, thick haze with a thin tan head. Light cherry flavor and aroma. The chocolate was like that of a light layer of dust in the brew, It was tasty but lacking of the cherry. Dark malt flavors this was rich but lacking of the needed chocolate and cherry.

22 oz. bottle from the Brown Jug, on Old Seward. Black in colorm with a decent head. Well, head is a bit wispy, but you know, it looks pretty good. A fruit beer? Hmmm....Iím not sure Iíd agree with that. Yes, cherris were added, and, yes, this is a cherry stout, but shit, how many other stouts dump fruit in their beer? Iím not sure, so, actually, maybe the person who entered this is correct. This beer has a funky canned-cherry aroma, with little to speak of in terms of roast, chocolate, or anything else that reminds me of drinkiní a stout. This beer doesnít do it for me at first, but it develops quite oddly, and over time. It starts out as this artificial amalgam of stuff that I canít describe, but then the roast, the subtle tartness/fruitiness from the cherries kick in, and then there is a long drawn-out flavor of roast and bitterness that hits the taste buds. Still, even after all of that, something seems off here. The carbonation gets in the way a wee-bit, and thereís something stopping this from coming all together, but hell, Iím in Anchorage, itís snowing, and Iím drinking this beer, so life is good. Decent, stuff, a few tweaks here and there should shimmy out the problems, one would hope. Plus, they should really watch the spelling of "desert". Also, before I go, the alcohol, per the bottle is 8.5%, but Iím too lazy to add that. Oh, and one more thing, the roast flavor is quite good, itís still sticking with me, and tastes solid.
