Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, brown, mostly lasting. Body is black (non-opaque, flashlight tested). Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, dark chocolate), with notes of smoke (mostly campfire-ish, only slight smoked meat character), alcohol, and plastic. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, slightly husky, slightly unclean. Medium to full body, watery/syrupy/velvety texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. This one has a fairly simple aroma, but the smoke is assertive, especially for an American brewery. It’s a bit husky and dirty as with the Roughneck, but it’s less obtrusive here thanks to the hiding/masking powers of such a big brew. Not quite enjoyable, but drinkable.

Tasting at Matt’s
Black color, small beige head. Strong aroma of charred wood, with hints of chocolate, tobacco, spices, leather (8.5). Smooth mouthfeel, nice dark caramel and some dark chocolate flavor, moderately sweet, moderately smoked, with nice leather character.
Excellent balanced beer with multiple layers.

Got the bottle at Ted Stephens Airport, where they have a shop with a bunch of Alaskan craft beverages you can buy to take on the plane. Dark brown, lots of smoke, with some fairly rich molassesy malts. A fairly rich brew, nice balance, and a sweet smokey character.

22 oz. bottle, pours black with a small light brown head. Aroma is quite highly smoked, with peaty notes, ash tray and light roasted malt. Flavour is prominent on the peaty smoke, with medium roast and sludgy smoky notes. A bit murky and muffled, but decently executed. Not overly pleasant, but decent.

Bottle. Pours a near black color with a moderate brown head on it. Nose is extremely smokey to the point of almost meat like. Taste is very roasty with a huge amount of smoke to it. Too smokey to work well as a drinkable beer.

Pours black as night with a fat head of mocha colored foam to top it. Falls slowly enough and never really leaves completely. Leaves sheeting wet lace. The nose is lovely. A seet bacon, and a bit of char. Some some rich malt and caramel sweetness. A nice bit of dark fruit and a the scent of smoke and burnt wood. There’s a peat like earthiness on the nose and a faint bit of dark chocolate. Taste is lovely and balanced very well. The meaty qualities never run amok. There is a rich coffee flavor from the roast malt that I think is perfect along the soft smoky qualities. The faint bit of chocolate accents the coffee perfectly. The dark fruit adds a beautiful depth to the flavors. The peat like earth and a lovely hop bitterness finish this beer with a lick of alcohol dryness and a touch of warmth. A soft and gentle mouthfeel that is creamy and full. Perfectly balanced. Delightful. Thank you Adam.
