3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 PorterPounder (3944) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - DEC 7, 2010
Tallahassee, Fl - Liquor Loft - 11.2 oz bottle - labeled as Kasteel Rouge. Dark reddish pour with a tight light purple head. Aroma is full of fresh sour cherries. Flavor is chock full of sour cherry goodness, some cherry sour tarts, and a hint of black dirt earthiness. Mouthfeel is thick enough. Nice cold winter evening sipper.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 otakuden (1490) - Vero Beach, USA - DEC 6, 2010
Appearance: pours clear burgundy red with a wee bubbly head which disappears quickly. Swirls with no more apparent lace or head. Interestingly enough retains a presence of age, of time spent in silent slumber.
Nose: cherries and powdered sugar, softly sweet. Strawberry and rhubarb pie followed by a tease of tartness in the back. Preserved cherries; black, plump, juicy, slurpy. Subtle dryness and bitterness of cherry stems and pits. Whiff of must in the back along with old leather and old wood, equally worn with time.
Palate: playful carbonation all across the board which is a surprise considering her un-carbonated appearance, but by now I should know better than to judge on looks alone. Black cherries by the ton, fresh and canned, their juices dribbling down the chin. Musty earthen nutty pits, stems, and old wood underneath. Shredded rhubarb is followed up by gentle powdered sugar notes and pie dough chewiness, like a soft bed to lie upon. Skins are plentiful for a balanced tart playfulness which tickles and teases. Simple and exuberantly complex all at the same time, each quaff demanding another.
Final Thoughts: I found this lil gem of a bottle during my Minneapolis trip with the sis, and I cracked her open to the awesome jive and jazz of Triplets of Belleville. While I had inklings of how awesome a pairing they would be, I really didn’t have any inkling of just how awesome a pairing they would be. I was in movie+beer bliss. Truly fantastique.

this is a Kasteel brune that has been lagered with Krieken (a sour cherry)
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 wimpie133 (380) - Brugge, BELGIUM - NOV 26, 2010
Bottle, 33 cl. Deep red coloured beer with small white head. Aroma of cherries (definitely!), malts and sweetness. Taste are cherries and malts, sweet overall with some light hops at the background. Another nice one in the Kasteelbier-series, however the palate could have been greater.
3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Moooooser (20) - Indiana, USA - NOV 20, 2010
I hope you love love cherries! This beer has a phenomenal aroma, and a great deep red appearance. The taste starts out great, but slowly starts to taste like cough syrup near the end. A good beer, but not as balanced as the Bell’s cherry stout (despite the fact that it’s not in the same category). Definitely worth a shot though. Enjoy!
